    1. Re: [ARSHARP] library searching
    2. Hello Connie, I can tell you when I went searching for a probate record that would have been in Sharp County in 1878, I called the Sharp County Library and they told me that they have no records there like that. She told me they don't have anything in the way of genealogy except maybe some family books. The courthouse has records from 1890 forward. The courthouse burned in 1890; she (the librarian) directed me to Walnut Ridge saying maybe I could find what I needed in Lawrence County? What I did was go on the LDS site and see what microfilm they have for Sharp County, AR., and got a few records that way. So, I think it would be wise for you to call ahead and talk to them about what you're looking for. I would be interested in hearing what they tell you. Cathy Johnson [email protected]

    2. Constance J. Smith
    3. I am wondering what libraries to go to in Sharp county and where they are located. I am planning to visit next spring and am looking for 1880 mortality schedules, 1870-1880 information on Smiths. I have census and homestead records but I know that one ancestor Braxton Smith who was 69 in 1870 must have died by 1880. But I can't find out when or anything on him. Would like to go look for obituaries, tax records, probate perhaps, cemetaries, etc. -- Connie Smith Kettle Falls, WA (northeast WA, Stevens County) Mail to:[email protected]

    1. [ARSHARP] Are you Interested in Taking Over the Randolph Co., AR GenWeb Site?
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. It was with regret that Tammie Chada contacted me this week to let me know that she is going to have to give up the Randolph Co., AR GenWeb site. This was a very hard decision for her, but according to her husband she has taken on to much of a load and he is concerned about her health. She is heavily involved in Oklahoma Research and is the Coordinator for the Ok Logan GenWeb Site, web mistress for the Oklahoma Cemeteries Mailing List Homepage, the co-State Archivist for the Oklahoma Archives US GenWeb Project and co-Project Manager for the Oklahoma Tombstone Project and she has a 5 year old at home. If you would be interested in taking over the Randolph Co., AR GenWeb site and have the time, talent and desire to help it to continue to develop into one of the best Arkansas Genealogy sites on the Internet, we would love to hear from you. 3. Dear List Members, We are still trying to find someone to take over the Randolph County AR GenWeb site. Tammie Chada is having to give it up due to health reasons and her involvement, as her husbands says, in "To many projects". I don't have the ability to take it on, I was just a support person. If you would be interested in taking over this valuable site and have the time, talent and desire to help it to continue to develop into one of the best Arkansas Gena sites out there, we would love to hear from you. 2. Info for Pat Brewer: The Old Independence Regional Museum in Batesville has research material for the area that was in "Old Independence" County, which includes both Izard and Sharp Counties. It's a great resource, the staff are helpful and it's located at 380 S. 9th Street in Batesville. www.oirm.org In Little Rock, the Arkansas History Commission at One Capitol Mall is also a great resource. It has the largest collection of state newpapers, federal census records and lots more. www.ark-ives.com Linda Matthews

    2. Am trying to find information on John Spencer YOUNG and his wife Lucinda Rae YOUNG. I found John S. Young on 1910 Sharp Co. Union Twp. census with wife Lucinda, married daughter Maggie Shultz and her daughter Hazel, sons Charley and Melvin R. and daughters Nannie and Manda. I didn't have much time at the Ft. Smith library to do much looking. John S. Young wasn't on the 1920 census but did find a marriage for daughter Maggie to A.A. Schultz in 1894 in Armstrong. Looking for any help. Joyce

    2. Pat Brewer
    3. Good Morning Everyone, Hope had a good weekend. Have question for you folks, especially you locals. The cousin in DC area, of my husbands as well as Jan & Rosemary is headed that way for a fast trip. Knowing I had spent more time there than she has in years she asked for recommendation of libraries such she could do. I am no help,. The only one I have even been in was the little one in Hardy. She's interested in Izard, Sharp and maybe Independence. And she will be in L. Rock as well as several days at Hardy University. So any ideas you folks have, would appreciate it, and I will save them for my trip next spring. Also maybe some of you folks well acquainted with the older cemeteries can help. We are looking for the burial place of John F. Brewer. This is the obit: Sharp County Record, Evening Shade, Friday July 19, 1901 "Uncle Johnnie"Brewer, a good citizen who lived about three miles from here,, died last Friday (July 12) and was buried at the cemetery near town Saturday. He was an ex-Confederate and was well liked by all who knew him. I have inquired about a burial place before. But maybe this might help someone tell us about a cemetery that would have been "near town" in 1901. I thank all of you so, and I am putting out the same plea to the Izard County List. Everyone have a good week. Pat

    1. [ARSHARP] LEWIS family of Arkansas, Missouri
    2. Looking for information on John Grover Lewis, married to Dora Alice Mosely. John was born May 31, 1890, died November 14, 1964. Alice was born March 25, 1890, died April 2, 1940. Both are buried in the Monett Memorial Cemetery in Monett, AR. Their son, my grandfather, Aubrey C. Lewis, was born in Batesville in 1918. Other children were Estelle, Elvie, Pearl, Norma Jane, Juanita, J.W., George Albert (born 1911 in Cave City, AR). There are at least two other daughters. According to John's obituary, he had a sister, a Mrs. L.A. Gilmore living in Batesville, AR in 1964, and a brother Albert M. Lewis who was living in Holdenville, Hughes County, Oklahoma at that time. John also had a sister named Anna Belle, who died in the 1920's. It's possible that John was born in Agnos, Fulton county, AR, and that his parents names were George W. Lewis and Elvie Tucker. George Albert Lewis married Lena Maude Washburn. they lived in St. Louis, MO, and he passed away in Scott Co, Missouri in 1973. Norma Jane and J.W. Lewis eventually ended up in Arlington, TX. Elvie married Henry Mayo and lived in St. Louis, MO. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. My grandfather passed away in 1989, and no one in the family seems to know much about the Lewis relatives and ancestors. I would be very happy to hear from any descendents of this branch of the Lewis family. Thanks, Georgiana

    2. Beverly, Do you have the Izard County History Book that was just published this summer? If you don't, I may have some info for you from it about Joseph Wesley Ragan. I had been under the mistaken impression all my life from my folks that the name was spelled like the president. But, in this latest history book it has the scoop. I've loaned the book to my parents (they got me started on geneology), but I'll get it back soon.
