Hi,   I have John Wesley Lewis born Feb 1808 in Randolph Co., NC. He was the son of John Lewis (son of Samuel) and Lavinia Steed (dau of Nathaniel Steed). John and Lavinia Lewis' daughter, Nancy Lewis, married Elijah Godwin in Randolph Co., 27 May 1826. Elijah and Nancy (Lewis) Godwin moved from NC to IN-IL then settled in Lawrence Co., AR by 1840. I have not seen anything on Earl Lewis in NC.   Children of John Lewis (d. abt 1831) and Lavinia Steed:   1. Nancy Lewis, b. bet. 1799-1820 in NC, died bet. 1850-1860 in Reeds Creek, Lawrence Co., AR; Married Elijah Godwin, 1826 in Randolph Co., NC; Had several children, one of which was John Wesley Godwin who was in Izard Co., AR in 1880. 2. I am wondering if the John Wesley Lewis family and the Earl Eason Lewis family may be related in some way? I list John's middle name as Wesley since in one census record John, Jr. is listed as John Wesley Lewis and in the marriage record for the younger John W. Lewis and Mattie A. Unfortunately it looks as if this is a different family although they both have a John Wesley Lewis. The John Wesley Lewis b. abt. 1808, son of John and Lavina/Lavinia (Steed) Lewis is said to have married Eveline T. Edwards and they are listed in the 1880 Thomasville, Davidson County, North Carolina census. My John Wesley Lewis b. abt. 1819 in NC according to the 1880 census is found in Sebastian County, Arkansas in 1880 with his wife, Rachel. Using the birthplaces for his children as listed in the 1880 census, my John Wesley Lewis was in these places at these listed dates: abt. 1819 - ? in North Carolina bet. 1853-1865 Kentucky 1865 he was in Illinois 1868 he was in Missouri 1870 he was in Arkansas where he remained until at least the census in 1880 It appears that this may be the family of John Wesley Lewis b. abt. 1808 in NC in the 1870 census: 1870 census: Thomasville, Davidson, North Carolina; Roll: M593_1134; Page: 206; Image: 418.
