Charles Wesley CHELF, 93, of Spiro, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, in Alva. He was born July 22, 1908 at Woodward to John Wesley and Olive C. Smith Chelf. He was married to Dorothy Gorsching on June 2, 1931, and to this union five children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers; two sisters; and a grandson. Survivors include two daughters, Juaneta Coulter and husband Carol of Amarillo, Texas and Margie Heath of Alva; three stepdaughters, Glenda Young and husband Bill, Susie Carter and husband Paul and Eva Wilhite all of Spiro; three sons, Charles Chelf and wife Ethel of Amarillo, Texas, Roy Chelf and wife Jennie of Henryetta and Richard Chelf of Amarillo; one stepson, Duane Mahar and wife Pat of Panama; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and family and friends. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro. Dona Luree NEWELL, 67, of McMinnville, died Monday, July 23, 2001. She was born Jan. 29, 1934 in Heavener to Jim and Opal Cogburn Hemphill. She was raised in Oklahoma where she graduated from LeFlore High School. She moved to Kansas City, Mo. in 1952. She married John O. Newell on Oct. 14, 1954 in Kansas City. She moved to Oregon in 1968 and worked at Tektronix until her retirement. She moved to McMinnville in 1999. After retiring she often went fishing and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also liked quilting and knitting. Family members said she enjoyed life to the fullest. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Patricia Wyatt of Carlton, Donna Vargus of Prineville and Susan Lance of Ontario; two sons, Nathan Newell of Forest Grove and Kenneth Newell of Columbia City; two sisters, Evelyn Brown of Heavener and Syble White of Kansas City; 13 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of Macy & Son Funeral Directors of McMinnville.
