    3. The following are the obituaries for today, Ft. Smith, Ar.: Norah Scarborough MENA — Norah Scarborough, 100, of Mena died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, in Mena. She was born Oct. 28, 2001, in Enloe, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mena and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 43 more than 50 years. Funeral was held Monday in Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Scarborough of Springdale and Robbie Faye Rabb of Harligen, Texas; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Wilma Perkins KEOTA — Wilma Lorene Perkins, 81, of Keota died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, in Stigler. She was the widow of James Lester Perkins. Funeral was Monday in Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Keota City Cemetery. She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Clack of Fort Smith, Joan Owen of Sallisaw, Cathy Lamb of Oklahoma City and Nancy Lawson of Keota; a son, Jimmie Perkins of Keota; a sister, Alice Morris of Atwater, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons. Samuel Emerson Sr. MENA — Samuel H. “Sam” Emerson Sr., 82, of Mena died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, in his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Mena. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of First Baptist Church in Mena. Funeral was Monday in Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Beth Lynch of West Plaines, Mo.; three sons, Sam Emerson Jr. of Fayetteville, Randolph and Barry Emerson, both of Mena; a sister, Margaret Mosley; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. William Lloyd CHARLESTON — William Lloyd, 83, of Charleston died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, in Charleston. He was a retired carpenter. The body was cremated. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Smith Mortuary of Charleston. He is survived by his wife, Shrildy; four stepdaughters, Virginia Crawford of Alvarado, Texas, Clara Sill of Van Buren, Retha Hall of Kenai, Alaska, and Jessica Luckey of Collierville, Tenn.; three stepsons, Kenny and Tim Hutchins, both of Charleston, and Joel Cox of Lavaca; a sister, Alice Daniels of Aurora, Mo.; and a brother, Charles Lloyd of Kansas City, Mo. Arthur Carter HACKETT — Arthur Curtis Carter, 84, of Hackett died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in his home. He was an Army veteran of World War II, retired from Baldor, a member of American Legion Post No. 31 in Fort Smith, the Greenwood Lodge No. 131 F&AM and the DAV and VFW. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Old Union Cemetery in Hackett. He is survived by his wife, Imogene; a daughter, Theresa Hester of Hackett; two sons, Gary and Mike Carter, both of Hackett; two stepsons, Doug Rogers of Huntington and William Harris of Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Marie Stoker of Wilburton; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Wanda Goff SHADY POINT — Wanda Lucille Powell Goff, 57, of Shady Point died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Shady Point. She was born July 8, 1944, in Hinton, Okla. She was pastor of Community Church in Shady Point and active in home health. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Pentecostal Church of God in Panama with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Panama under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. She is survived by her husband, Willie; three sisters, Pamela Lollis of Henryetta, Okla., Priscilla Estep of Haskell, Okla., and Lrinda Petersen of Tahlequah; six brothers, Lonnie Allen Powell of Bonham, Texas, Johnny Andrew Powell of Buena Vista, Colo., Carl Powell of New Caney, Texas, Larry Powell of Hulbert, Okla., James Jr. Powell of Haskell, Okla., and Lyndell Powell of New Mexico. Azalene Wilson HARTMAN — Azalene Wilson, 67, of Hartman died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Clarksville. She was born April 12, 1934, in Hartman. She was a 1953 graduate of Hartman High School, a cook at Hartman School for many years and a member of Union Grove Baptist Church and the Democratic Committee Women. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Union Grove Baptist Church with burial at Hartman Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville. She is survived by her husband, Raymond; three daughters, Sherry Fowler of Hartman, Beth Clements of Bethany, Okla., and Mary Ellen Neilson of Ontario, Calif.; three sons, Lonnie Ray and Michael Joe Wilson, both of Hartman, and Gary Wayne Wilson of Clarksville; two sisters, Virginia Kelly of Kibler and Louann King of Van Buren; a brother, Pete Drewry of Cedarville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Islahrea Carter POTEAU — Islahrea Dunn Carter, 82, of Poteau died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Poteau. She was born Dec. 11, 1918, in Hartford. She was a seamstress, office employee, a beautician, a member of Order of the Eastern Star and a Methodist. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. She is survived by two daughters, Toni Allen of Poteau and Abbie Bailey of Sallisaw; a son, Floyd “Lawson” Carter Jr. of Grapevine, Texas; a sister, Ada Marie Douglas of Fort Smith; two brothers, Walter Dunn Jr. of Spiro and Harold Dunn of Carlsbad, N.M.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mary Harvell Mary Geneva Harvell, 78, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Unity Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith. She was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Mountain Top, Ark. She was a homemaker and a Christian. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Belt Cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. She is survived by four daughters, Linda Floyd, Judy Chancey and Debbie Stephenson, all of Ozark, and Vicki Anderson Turner of Fort Smith; a son, Arvin Mayner of Ozark; seven grandchildren, Heather and Holly Barham, Leah and Chad Floyd, Don Chancey, Misty Mayner and Christina Wiley; and three great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. B.J. Clopton B. J. “Billy” Clopton, 83, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a retired salesman for Southridge Plastics and W.R. Grace Inc. in Dallas, and a member of Central Presbyterian Church, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Belle Point Lodge, Blue Lodge and the Scottish Rite and a ham radio operator. He was a Baptist and the widower of Modena Garrison. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Akins Cemetery northeast of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. He is survived by a daughter, Mallie Dean Gillean of Midland, Texas; a son, Charles Garrison of Sallisaw; two sisters, Cleo Langone of Fort Gibson, Okla., and Maye Whitewater of Muskogee, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Charles, Clint and Dan Garrison, Marla Strong, Cindy Broussard, Roy and Charles Gillean, Kristin, Kim and Scott Rowles; and nine great-grandchildren. Frankie Corley GORE — Frankie L. Corley, 88, of Gore died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Gore. She was a homemaker and co-owner and operator of Corley Oil Co. of Gore from 1940 to 1995. She was the oldest member of Gore United Methodist Church and the widow of Arbie Corley. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Gore United Methodist Church with burial at Gore Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Gore. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothea Allenbaugh of Gore; a brother, Floyd Carter of Vian; a granddaughter, Pat Cotherman of Gore. Richard Sweeney Richard George Sweeney, 71, of Van Buren died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in a local hospital.
