    3. Hello Alene, In Arkansas, Petit Jean, or Little John, is the name of a river, a mountain, a state park, a wildlife refuge, and a small town. All of them derive their names from the river, which heads, as a creek, on White Oak Mountain in Scott County. This mountain is located not far from and almost due east of Hartford, which is in Sebastian County. It is also southwest of Booneville (Logan County) and northeast of Waldron (Scott County). The creek/river flows northwest before turning east, getting dammed up in Yell County, to form Blue Mountain Lake, then continuing it's flow through the wildlife refuge and on by the town of Petit Jean, which I believe is on State Highway #7 north of Ola. The river then encounters the Petit Jean Mountain, which it flows around on the north. The mountain and part of the river are included in the state park, which is located near Morrilton, southeast of Russellville, west of Conway, and northwest of Little Rock. After passing Petit Jean Mountain, the river continues until it empties into the Arkansas River near Morrilton. It would seem that "on the Petit Jean" could refer to the mountain, the river, or even the creek. Good luck in your quest.
