I forwarded a newspaper article about an1843 slave auction (sent to another AR list) to the SLAVEINFO-L list. In order to find the list I wandered around Rootsweb for awhile and clicked on Misc then Ethnic mail lists. I was dumfounded to see so many Ethnic groups so thought I would share them here in case there is one that you might be interested in. As to what some of them stand for - your guess is as good as mine. The slaves in the Crawford Co. newspaper article had only first names. Jeri had a good suggestion about finding slaves last names - try looking through the 1860 census and hopefully they have not left the area. I'll stay on the SLAVEINFO-L list for a bit so if you have any applicable items that should be sent to that list - send them to me and I'll forward them to the list.
