    3. Fort Smith, Arkansas . Thursday, February 1, 2001 Johnnie Skidgel HARTMAN - Johnnie Lee Skidgel, 71, of Hartman died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in his home. He was an Air Force veteran and a retired truck driver. He was of the Assembly of God faith. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Fernwood Assembly of God with burial at West Mount Zion Cemetery in Hartman under the direction of Roller Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville. He is survived by one daughter, Kimberlee Nybye of Clarksville; three sons, Larry Thomas Skidgel of Clarksville, Michael K. Skidgel of Santa Ana, Calif., and Johnnie L. Skidgel Jr. of Diamond Bar, Calif.; one sister, Mary Morgan of Altus; three brothers, Robert and Charles Skidgel, both of Hartman, and Thomas Skidgel of Clarksville; and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Gaylan Williams, Jettie Marvel, Michael Guinnip, Jason Nybye, Larry Skidgel and J.C. Smith. William Bass FAYETTEVILLE - William Lee "Bill" Bass, 70, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Fayetteville. He served more than 20 years in the Army and Air Force and was in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received several citations for valor, including the Bronze Star, and retired as a technical sergeant. He was a Baptist. Funeral will be 11 a.m. today in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery with full military honors in Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife, Helen; two stepsons, Winston Harvey of Tulsa and Gary Harvey of Fayetteville; one sister, Nadine Wood of Muskogee, Okla.; one brother, Melvin Bass of Muskogee; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be military. James Edwards MULBERRY - James F. Edwards, 71, of Mulberry died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Fort Smith. He retired from the military and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Mulberry First Baptist Church and was former owner of Jim's Grocery in Mulberry. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Mulberry First Baptist Church with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home in Mulberry. He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Sandy Allen and Cindy Tobey, both of Mulberry; one son, Jim Edwards of Fort Smith; four sisters, Nina Braden of Limestone, Neva Tilseth and Joyce Cervantes, both of Albuquerque, N.M., and Faye Fulford of Elizabethtown, N.C.; one brother, R.B. Edwards of Mulberry; three grandchildren, John Allen of Mulberry, Lori McAlister of Alma and Erin Tobey of Mobile, Ala.; and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Frank Allen, Ermon Crabtree, David Marvin, Fred Moon, David Moody and Jimmy Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Mulberry First Baptist Church. John Girty Sr. VIAN - John E. Girty Sr., 67, of Vian died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Sallisaw. He was a member of Canterbury Methodist Church in Vian. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday in Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Redbird Smith Cemetery, northwest of Vian. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; six daughters, Susan Adair of Tahlequah, Peggy Girty of Flute Springs, Okla., Brenda Caves, Linda Morris, and Joan Girty, all of Vian, and Elizabeth Morris of Sallisaw; one son, John Girty Jr. of Vian; one sister, Wynona Christie of Vian; two brothers, Mike Girty of Sallisaw and Archie Lee Girty of Vian; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The body may be viewed at the funeral home. Betty Lincoln SPRINGDALE - Betty Lincoln, 84, of Springdale died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Nampa, Idaho. She was the widow of Leonard Lee "Abe" Lincoln. The body was cremated under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Cole of Springdale; one sister, Dena Barnes of Bartlesville, Okla.; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the home of Jim and Linda Cole. Memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 610 E. Emma, Springdale, AR 72764. Iva Owen ARKOMA - Iva Owen, 91, of Arkoma died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. today at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Putman Funeral Home in Fort Smith. She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Henry of Arkoma; three grandchildren, Connie Tibbett of Fort Smith, Danny Henry of Arkoma and Jeff Henry of Ward; and six great-grandchildren. Marguerite Vogel Marguerite Vogel, 95, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was retired from Weldon, Williams and Lick and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rosary will be 7 p.m. today in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fort Smith with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fort Smith. She is survived by one sister, Flora Vogel of Fort Smith; three nieces, Ruth Tinder of Fort Smith, Nancy Highfill of Monroe, La., and Betty Meadors of Maumelle.; four nephews, Johnnie Porter of Fort Smith, Charles Porter of Viola, Bill Esslinger of Irving, Texas, and Frank Vogel of Park Forest, Ill.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Pallbearers will be Carl Tinder, Johnnie Porter, Ken Billingsly, Bill Meadors, Keith Mizell and Will Turnage. Elbert Murray GREENWOOD - Elbert Lee Murray, 81, of Greenwood died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Greenwood. He was a factory worker at a cannery and was a Pentecostal. The body was cremated under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. He is survived by one brother, James Alfred Murray of Muldrow; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Rosemary Murphy Taber, 79, of Fort Smith, formerly of Russellville, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was the mother of 13 children and she was of the Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Taber, a daughter, Linda Poneta, and two brothers, Pete and Mike Murphy. Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Friday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith with burial at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville. She is survived by four daughters, Pat Morgan of Atlanta, Kathy Humiston and Susan Starr, both of Fort Smith, and Mary Scovic of Portage, Mich.; eight sons, Clint Taber of Edwardsville, Ill., Steve Taber of Kenmore, Wash., Mike Taber of Hot Springs, David Taber of Houston, Tom Taber of Augusta, Ga., Peter Taber of Fayetteville, Rick Taber of Van Buren and Robert Taber of Kansas City, Mo.; four sisters, Sally Boniecki of Chicago, Virginia Brewster of Falls Church, Va., Pat Tighe of Palo Alto, Calif., and Eileen Oliver of San Mateo, Calif.; two brothers, Richard Murphy of La Habra, Calif., and Chuck Murphy of Sterling, Ill.; 29 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeff and Adam Humiston, David and Clint Taber III, Shaun Easton and Nick Westpha. All other grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
