I am going to post some miscellaneous obituaries taken from the Poteau Daily News and Sun... also, this newspaper <WWW.PDNS.COM> has added a search engine for archived online obituaries, although it only goes back to November of 2000. Poteau has a nice style of obits, they are good to publish the deceased's parent's names and those that preceded the individual in death. Ila Mae Powell, 83, of Bokoshe, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in Spiro. She was born Sept. 21, 1917 in Albion, Mich. Mrs. Powell was a homemaker. She is survived by two daughters, Emma Harris of Bokoshe and Leona Hawkins of Longview, Texas; two sons, Tommy Powell of Greenville, Texas and Gene Powell of Dallas; four grandchildren; one sister, Jo Haynes of Broken Arrow; numerous other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Jimmy Parsley officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery in Hugo under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
