    2. WHITNEY ROSWELL CHECKETTS, 72, of Heavener, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 in Duchesne, Utah. He was born Jan. 29, 1929 in Bear River City, Utah to Charles and Ida May Stevens Checketts. He married Darlene Barrow on June 20, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. He married Helen Rosemary Wiggins on Nov. 16, 1990 in Greeley, Colo. He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene and 12 brothers and sisters. He served in the Army Reserve. Mr. Checketts lived in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho and Oklahoma where he managed and owned various farms and dairies for the LDS Church and for himself. He retired from the Pierce LDS Church Farm in 1992. He was a member of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in the Texas Louisiana Mission from 1948 to 1950, served in Bishopric, as a Stake Missionary and in many other callings. The Book of Mormon was his favorite book and he shared its teachings of Christ with everyone he met. He is survived by his wife Helen of the home; his children, Jolene (Farrell) Farnsworth of Duchesne, Utah, Roswell (Kerry) Checketts of LaSalle, Colo., McKay (Martha) Checketts of Columbia, N.C., Max (Donna) Checketts of Rexburg, Idaho, Tamara (Ross) Jorgensen, of Grace, Idaho, Thad (Lori) Checketts of Lebanon, Ind., Russell (Wendy) Checketts of Burley, Idaho, stepdaughters, Lavonne (Buddy) Myers of Frisco, Texas, Barbara (Steve) Johnson of Lakewood, Colo., Cynthia Drewry of Heavener; 34 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; three sisters, Minnie Frehner, Marcia Taylor and Arletta Thomley. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Bear River LDS Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Bear River City Cemetery. DAVID H. SMITH, 45, of Cameron, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was born July 3, 1955 in Poteau. He was Chief of Police for the town of Cameron. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, Special Forces, Chief of Police of Cameron, member of the Moshulatubbee Lodge, member of the Fraternal Order of Police, member of the Oklahoma Association of Chief of Police Officers, member of the Oklahoma National Guard - HDQT STARC. Survivors include his wife, Cindy of the home; two daughters, Esther Lea and Amber Rose of the home; his mother Evelyn Smith, of the home; his mother-in-law, Jeanie Morgan; grandmother-in-law, Granny Butler, brothers-in-law and wives, Joe and Barbara Morgan and Barry and Carolyn Morgan; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; a host of special friends. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 2 at Poteau Church of Christ in Poteau. Burial will follow in Slatonville Cemetery in Slaytonville, Ark,. under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. Pallbearers will be Robert Marchant, Eric Frey, Hanson Taylor, Joe Morgan, Barry Morgan and Richard Cooper. JAMES E. "PAT" JACKSON, 75, of Spiro, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001. He was born Aug.17, 1925 in Colby, Kan. to James and Frances Jackson. He moved to Spiro eight years ago from Hudson, Colo. He was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and the Paint Horse Association. He retired in 1980 from ICX Truck Lines and was also a Rancher. He was a member of Saint Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Spiro. Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Willis Jackson. He married Alvera Depperfchmidt Aug. 28, 1947 in Oakley, Kan., she survives of the home. Other survivors include five sons, Daryl Jackson of Poteau, Kenneth Jackson of Bokoshe, Kevin Jackson, Chad Jackson, and Mark Jackson, all of Spiro; three daughters, Mary Dinges, Cathy Temple and Colette Chesner, all of Denver, Colo.; one brother Dean Jackson of Denver, Colo.; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass for Mr. Jackson will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 1, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Poteau with Father Khiet Nguyen officiating. A Rosary Service will be held 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the Grace Manor Chapel in Poteau. Burial will be in the Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau. Military Honors will be presented by the VFW Post 4446 from Stigler. Copyright © 2001
