    3. Walter Morphew Lt. Col. Walter L. Morphew Sr., 82, of Fort Smith died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in a Fort Smith nursing home. He was a retired with 32 years of service in the Army. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the First Christian Church. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Lavaca with full military honors by Fort Sill of Lawton, Okla. Burial will be at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, officiated by an Army chaplain. He is survived by three daughters, Sherry Lynn Dean and Barbara Ann Gigliello, both of Lavaca, and Kathy Kim Rantz of Atena; three sons, Walter Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., Robert Stephen of North Dakota and Robin Dale of Alvin, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Stafford of Tennessee and Leota Courtney of Texas; one brother, Jesse of Cabot; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. . Willard Long POTEAU - Willard Wayne Long, 67, of Poteau died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a regional measurement supervisor for Arkla Gas for 31 years. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Arkansas Knife Makers Association and the Fort Smith Knife Makers Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Poteau.Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church of Poteau with burial at Center Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in De Kalb, Miss. under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau. Ola Martin WISTER - Ola Mae Martin, 87, of Wister died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in Poteau. She was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Red Oak Chapter No. 145. She was a Sunday School teacher and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Wister. Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Bethel Baptist Church in Wister with burial at Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau. She is survived by her husband, Owen; two sisters, Margie Crist of Newton, Kan., and Ona Wigginton of Stockton, Calif.; two brothers, Frank Carpenter of Wister and Vernon Carpenter of Armor, S.D.; two grandchildren, Donna Fields and Eddie Martin, both of Wister; and three great-grandchildren, Bryan and Beth Fields and Don Allen Martin, all of Wister. Virgie Searl DEQUEEN - Virgie May Searl, 95, of DeQueen died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in a DeQueen nursing home. She was a production medic, a Taekwondo instructor with a black belt, a recipient of the Certificate of Achievement, Sebastian County Deputy Coroner, a member of Sebastian County EMS Rescue, the Tactical EMS-Fort Smith SWAT and the Sebastian County EMS Dive team.
