The 1850 - 1900 census for Polk, Sebastian, and Scott Co., AR indicates he was born in IL. However, the below Civil War data for him and his brother says they were born in Phillips Co., AR. These records are #1026 on Roll #57 (M399): POOL, JOHN J. Pvt Co K, 2d AR Inf, US Enlisted 15 Nov 1863 at Waldron, Scott Co, AR. He was sick at the time of the muster of the company. Mustered into service 26 May 1864 at Little Rock, AR and mustered out 8 Aug 1865 at Clarksville, AR. Age 40, born in Phillips Co, AR. Ht 5' 8", eyes blue, hair lt, complx fair, farmer. There was a stoppage of pay for $6.00 for 1 Springfield Musket & accs which were retained. Daily duty: Company Cook Signed by an X.
