    2. Roland Verne BROCK, 69, of Rudy died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Tulsa. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and was retired from the Navy and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a retired bank examiner from the Federal Home Loan Bank and was a member of the Eagles Club, the American Legion and the Buzzard Bowling League. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; two daughters, Rhonda Rowe and Jan Brock, both of Hope; a son, Jon Brock of Little Rock; his mother, Ona Shatto of Fort Smith; a sister, Kay Boyce of Fouke; two brothers, Bill Brock of Fort Smith and Ray Brock of Beaux Bridge, La.; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Gene Morris, Gene Lowery, James Chesser, Bill Jaros, Ken Melton, Melvin Leatherbury and Herman Brooks. “Bud” Harold Joseph McCOMBS, 53, of Subiaco died Monday, July 9, 2001, in Subiaco. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco. Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. today in St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco. Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Benedict Catholic Church with burial at St. Benedict Cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris. He is survived by his mother, Florentine McCombs of Subiaco; five sisters, Ann Ewing of Dardanelle, Betty Koch of Paris, Mary Beshoner of Subiaco, Judi Strobel of Little Rock and Lisa Bennett of Roseville; four brothers, David, Michael, Johnny and Dennis McCombs, all of Subiaco. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Frank Eugene HOYLE, 75, of Ozark died Monday, July 9, 2001, in Ozark. He was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Mulberry. He was a retired Army lieutenant colonel and a veteran of both theaters of World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altus and the St. Joseph Society, past president of Franklin County Co-op. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark. Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altus with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Altus. He is survived by his wife, Martha; four daughters, Karen Nichols of Fayetteville, Patsy Taylor of Fort Smith, Phyllis Wolfe of Benbrook, Texas, and Mary Ann King of London; a son, Frank Hoyle Jr. of Mulberry; three sisters, Maxine Conway of North Little Rock, Phyllis Stotts of Arlington, Texas, and Inez Allen of Alma; a brother, Clyde Hoyle of Mulberry; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Ann Teresa BARRATT, 89, of Ozark died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Ozark. She was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Canada. She was a homemaker and the widow of Alfred Barratt. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Mount View Cemetery in Ozark. She is survived by two daughters, Ann Stovall of Ozark and Doris Cothrun of Midland, Texas; a son Pete Barratt of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kim Young, John Stovall, Debbie Ciampoli, Peter and Laura Barratt and Cathy Wadley and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tate, Mathew and Bradon Young, David and Ryan Ciampoli and Neal Wadley. Bertha Mae ALLEN, 97, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in Sallisaw. She was a homemaker and a member of Free Will Baptist. She was the widow of John Allen. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. She is survived by two daughters, Marie Davis of Sallisaw and Eva Shaeffer of Fresno, Calif.; a son, Boyd Allen of Dinuba, Calif.; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Don, Shawn, D.J., Owen and Bob Davis and Ronnie Caldwell. Bud PARMENTER, 56, of Cedarville died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in Cedarville. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam and a retired fork lift operator from Capco Inc. in Van Buren. He was a member of Dora Pentecostal Church of God. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Dyer Cemetery in Dyer. He is survived by his wife, Sue; a daughter, Debra Parmenter of Cedarville; a son, Keith Parmenter of Cedarville; his mother, Myrtle Parmenter of Van Buren; three sisters, Margaret Jones of Chester, Dorothy Belcher and Betty Holbrook, both of Van Buren; two brothers, Curtis Parmenter of Van Buren and Gary Parmenter of Cedarville; two grandchildren. Lillian Mattie PARSONS, 73, of Akins community died Monday, July 9, 2001, in Sallisaw. She was a farm worker and a nurse’s aide. She was a member of Church of God. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Akins Cemetery northeast of Sallisaw. She is survived by her husband, David; two daughters, Julie Carolyn Ziemba and Lori Ann Gregory, both of the Akins community; a son, David Parsons Jr. of Akins community; two sisters, Lois Lewis of California and Fern Milligan of Bakersfield, Calif.; a brother, Tommy Hannings of Blythe, Calif.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Ruth Stevenson GUNTER, 80, of Fort Smith, formerly of Booneville, died Monday, July 9, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was retired from Holt Krock Clinic and was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Posey. Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with graveside service at noon at Carolan Cemetery in Booneville. She is survived by two sisters, Mildred Holder and Marie Wingfield, both of Fort Smith; a granddaughter, Jennifer Smithson of Pocola and a great-granddaughter, Lacy Smithson. Pallbearers will be Justin McLaughlin, John Ward, Jim and James Bridges. Eloise Mankin FULLERTON, 92, of Fort Smith died July 8, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was born Dec. 8, 1908, in Fort Smith and anyone who knew Mrs. Fullerton can testify that her life was anything but dull. She was a graduate of Fort Smith High School in 1927, and after accepting a job in the office of the Dean of Women at Northeastern Teachers College in Tahlequah she began working toward a degree in education. It was at Northeastern that she met and married Thomas E. Fullerton of Henryetta, Okla. in 1932. Many will remember Tom as Dean Fullerton of Westark College. He believed that the social aspects of the college experience were extremely important. As a result, one of his goals during his time at Westark was to see the college build a student union. Fullerton Union was named in his honor. Eloise was an educator in the Fort Smith public school system, teaching, accounting, mathematics, English and business machines. She taught at Fort Smith High School (now Northside High), Darby Junior High and Southside High. She was head of the Business Department at Southside High School. She also taught a few years at Draughton’s Business College. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by three daughters, Susie Smith and Jeanne Fullerton, both of Fort Smith and Cynthia Ann Bushman of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Moka Lambert of Fort Smith and one brother, Buell M. Mankin of Fort Smith, and one stepbrother, Walter Stockton of Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith. Emma Louise PENCE, 52, of Fort Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away Monday, July 9, 2001, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center after a 20-year battle with heart disease. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. She was a homemaker and attended Unity Assembly of God Church. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Ray Pence Sr. of the home; three sons, Floyd Ray Pence, Jr., Kevin Lee Pence and Douglas Wade Pence, all of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Caitlin, Destiny, Sierra and Brittany Pence; two stepgrandchildren, Tyler Sharp and Kimiko Hamm; one sister, Carolyn King of Spiro; three brothers, Clenith and Jerry Boitel, both of Booneville, and Ronald Boitel of Fort Smith; a halfsister, Thelma K. Boitel and several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, with a reception following at Unity Assembly of God Church. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews. Ruth PRESSON, 78, of Huntington died Monday, July 9, 2001, in a Fort Smith nursing home. She was a retired restaurant owner and operator. She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Presson, a son, Wendell and grandson Richard. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Huntington City Cemetery. She is survived by four sons, Charles Presson of Mansfield, Robert Presson of Greenwood, Jerry Presson of Huntington and Larry Presson of Fort Smith; four brothers, Bill and James Richmond, both of Huntington, Jack Richmond of Bates and Bob Richmond of Fort Smith; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Josh Falt, Ricky, John and Kenny Richmond, Richard and Rusty Risner. Jack Scott ROSE, age 52, passed from this life Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was a former Missouri Synod Lutheran pastor in Union City, Tenn., El Dorado, and Modesto, Calif. He was also an accredited life insurance agent with Northwestern Mutual for over 12 years, and more recently with Guardian Life Insurance Company. He was selected several years as among the top five agents in the country for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. Mr. Rose graduated from First Lutheran School on North 12th and D Streets, and was a 1966 graduate of Southside High School. He graduated in 1970 from Drury College in Springfield, Mo. where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He graduated in 1974 from Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Ill. He was the son of Jack and Mildred Alice Rose, nee Rooney, and the grandson of Dr. Willis F. and Ora Scott Rose and of Edward C. and Marguerite Rooney. He is survived by his mother and two children, Megan Elizabeth and Scott Edward Rose, and his sister, Jan Rose Cromwell. Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001, in First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith with private interment service at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
