    2. Alma JoAnne WINTON, 62, of Shady Point, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Poteau. She was born March 15, 1939 at Lynn, Miss. to Linus and Mary Vick Mullen. She was a homemaker an a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Pocola. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Paul Winton; one daughter, Marcia Brummett and husband Frank of Sperry; three sons, Jerry Doyle Winton and wife Brenda, Joey Paul Winton and wife Crystal, all of Pocola; and James Herbert Winton and wife Lola of Hackett; three sisters, Jannette White of Cleveland, Miss., Peggy Allison of Jackson, and Nancy Henson of Shaw; four brothers, Bud Mullen of Indianola, Fred Mullen, Ricky Mullen and Benny Mullen, all of Shaw; four grandchildren, Riley Brooks, Chazz Brummett, Amanda Winton and Jessie Winton; 10 step grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at Trinity Baptist Church in Pocola with the Revs. Paul Walker and Roy Gene Edge officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro. Pallbearers will be Bill Autry, Tom Harrald, Frank Tibbitts, Bill Turner, Noble Winton and Gaylord Wann. Ethel Ellen THOMAS, 104, of Howe, died Monday, July 9, 2001, in Poteau. She was a longtime resident of the area and a member of the Mt. View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter and two sons, W.G. Thomas and Bill Thomas. Survivors include one daughter, Christine Douglas of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one son, Johnny Thomas of Howe; one sister, Betty Owens of Heavener; one brother, J.B. Vaughn of Heavener; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 13 at First Baptist Church of Heavener. Burial will follow in Mt. View "Glendale" Cemetery in Howe under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener. Richard Paul BROOKS, 78, of Hodgen, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001. He was born July 2, 1923, in Oklahoma City to Fowler and Hazel Brooks. He was married to Janelle Chatham Nov. 9, 1941; they had two sons and one daughter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister and first served as pastor at McCurtain. He also served as pastor in ten other churches including one as an appointee of the Home Mission Board in Columbus, Ohio. He was involved with short term mission work and/or church planting in California, Oregon, Idaho, Brazil and Mexico. He was the Director of Missions for LeFlore Baptist Association from 1977 to 1989. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet; his parents; first wife Janelle; sister Doris; son Paul; and second wife Barbara. Survivors include his wife Elaine of the home; son James of Poteau; brother Robert of Broken Arrow; grandchildren, Gina Schaffer of Fairfax, Dianna Schaffer of Ralston, James Brooks of Tulsa, Paula Tinker of Fort Worth, Texas and Pamela Yates of Scurry, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren. Services are pending at this time.
