The following obits appeared in the SW Times, Fort Smith, Ar. today: ELVIE STOCKIE POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. - Elvie Lucille Stockie, 76, of Powder Springs, Ga., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Austell, Ga. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary. She is survived by one son, Jimmy of Powder Springs; two sisters, Bernise Thrash and Beatrice Mansell, both of Fort Smith; one brother, Vernon Smith of Fort Smith; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. HERMAN NOBLES TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Herman Eugene Nobles, 62, of Tallahassee, Fla., formerly of the Heavener area, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Tallahassee. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church in Heavener with burial at Reichert Cemetery in Heavener, under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener. He is survived by three daughters, Margaret Couts of Buckner, Mo., Sherri Nobles of Independence, Mo., and Donna Maxon of Sopchoppy, Fla.; one son, Bryant of Independence; two sisters, Marie Davis of Heavener and Edna Fisher of Tallahassee; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. JUDY BROTHERTON DEQUEEN - Judy Lynn Ward Brotherton, 52, of DeQueen died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001. She was born October 11, 1948. She was a homemaker and was active in the First Baptist Church of DeQueen, where she served as co-director of the Adult One Sunday School Class. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Redmen Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Tim; two daughters, Robin Ponder of Hatfield and Allison Hodges of DeQueen; her mother, Pauline Harris of DeQueen; two sisters, Pat Raible of Stuttgart and Joanne Wilson of DeQueen; one brother, Steve Ward of Ashdown; and three grandchildren, Zachary and Nathan Hodges of DeQueen and T.J. Bigham of Hatfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of DeQueen. VERNA THOMPSON WITCHERVILLE - Verna Lee Thompson, 84, of Witcherville died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in a Greenwood nursing home. She was a homemaker, a former employee of Gerber Products Co. and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Witcherville. She was the widow of William Homer Thompson. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Mount Harmony Cemetery in Greenwood. She is survived by one daughter, Rama Jane Martin of Greenwood; two sons, Curtis Ben Thompson of Witcherville and the Reverend William Don Thompson of Barling; two sisters, Wanda Cusick of Witcherville and Helen Robinson of Mansfield; one brother, Harlan Cross of Witcherville; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Johnny Cockrail, Randy Cross, Sonny Clopton, Bobby Johnson, Gerald Puckett and Fred Thomas. The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. HELEN DAVIS OWASSO, Okla. - Helen Louise (Winton) Davis, 72, of Owasso, Okla., formerly of Poteau, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Tulsa. She was born May 23, 1928, in Muse, Okla. She was retired from a 35-year career as a math teacher.Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Muse Baptist Church with burial at Muse Cemetery, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. She is survived by one daughter, Paula Putman of Owasso; one brother, Wayne Winton of Dierks; and two grandchildren, Kenneth and Michael Putman, both of Owasso. Pallbearers will be Kenneth and Michael Putman, Jeff Winton, Tony Johnson and Gary and Larry Howard. KENNETH KRONE Kenneth B. Krone, 90, of Fort Smith died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a retired salesman for Fort Smith Paper Company, a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Barling, a member of UCT and a lifetime member of the NRA.Mass will be 10 a.m. today in Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Barling under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife, Erna; two daughters, Linda Raff of Helena and Jana Carter of Fort Smith; one sister, Bernice Krone Fishback of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Cathy Thomas of Fort Smith, Arthur Raff of Berryville, Charlotte Santa Cruz of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Cherie Ivey of North Little Rock; and eight great-grandchildren. GLENDA LATSOS TULSA - Glenda Couch Latsos, 45, of Tulsa died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Tulsa. She worked for the airline industry as a project manager and systems analyst and was a graduate of the Oklahoma State University School of Nursing. She was a member of the Full Gospel faith. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Blackgum Harvest Time Church with burial at Box Cemetery north of Vian, under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. She is survived by her fiance, Bill Bradney of Fort Smith; one son, Dustin Scott Blackwood of the home; her parents, J.C. and Cloey Couch of Vian; her grandfather, James Mike Willis of Vian; and one brother, Larry Couch of Vian. JERRY BOYD BOONEVILLE - Jerry Lee Boyd, 55, of Booneville died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3370 in Moriarty, N.M., and a disabled veteran of the Vietnam War. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Roberts Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Booneville. RAY RAGSDALE Ray E. Ragsdale Sr., 92, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was a retired furnace tender for Harding Glass Co., a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Windsor Park Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was the widower of Gertrude N. Ragsdale. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith. He is survived by three sons, Ray E. Ragsdale Jr. of Greenwood, Thomas N. Ragsdale of Lancaster, Calif., and Gerald M. Ragsdale of Fort Smith; 40 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. She was a member of New Hope Regular Baptist Church and a former resident of the Graphic community in Crawford County.
