Who were the siblings of Elizabeth Qubine (Cubine or other variant spelling) (b. abt. 1846 VA; d. before 1884 in Montague Co. TX; or Sebastian Co. AR (possibly between Greenwood and Hackett City); or Indian Territory)? Who were her parents? Where in VA were she and they from (parts of VA became WV in 1863)? Elizabeth Qubine/Cubine (or other variant spelling) married James M. Bland (b. 1844/45 VA). The word is that they were married in TX, but as you can see, all of the children in the 1880 federal census listing below were born in VA. I can think of a number of explanations for this, but will not go into that now). James M. Bland was the son of James and Ida (Dawson) Bland of Giles County VA. James Sr. was the brother, I'm told, of George W. Bland of Monroe Co. WV (formerly VA) who married Mary Campbell. In 1880 they are in the Precinct 1, Montague County, TX federal census with a family of six children. Here is their listing on that census (sometimes censuses give incorrect information for any one of a number of reasons): 1880 District 119, Precinct 1, Montague County, Texas 2831 J. M. Bland male 35 Farmer VA VA VA Elizabeth female 34 wife Housekeeping VA VA VA E. M. male 12 son Farmer VA VA VA (b. abt. 1868) Lucinda female 11 daughter VA VA VA (b. abt. 1869) William male 7 son VA VA VA (b. abt. 1873) James male 5 son VA VA VA (b. abt. 1875) I. N. male son TX VA VA (b. abt. 1879) In 1881, they had another son Riley E. Bland, who was born in Montague Co. TX. I do not know what other children they had between 1881 and 1884, or if child birth was the cause of Elizabeth's death. James M. Bland married Martha Jane Cantley 15 May 1884 in Sebastian Co. AR and had three more children in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory before Martha died about 1892. James married again 6 August 1893 to Mrs. E. C. Starr. He died 30 April 1896 in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory. There were several younger Blands in addition to James M. Bland who married in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory in the 1890s. These Bland marriages in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (available on microfilm at the Oklahoma Historical Society and transcribed by Barbara Donathan) were as follows: - J. M. Bland, 48 Krebs (b. 1844/45), m. Mrs. E. C. Starr, 40 Krebs (b. abt. 1853), on 6 August 1893 (This is the James M. Bland who was married previously to 1) Elizabeth Qubine and 2) Martha Jane Cantley - Emanuel L. Bland, 24 Krebs (b. abt. 1868), m. Edith Thurman, 21 Krebs (b. abt. 1871), on 31 July 1892 (Is this E. M. from the 1880 census?) - Ira Bland, 21 Coalgate (b. abt. 1879), m. Lee Watson, 18 Coalgate (b. abt. 1882) (Is this son I. N. from the 1880 census?) - W. A. Bland, 35 Indianola (b. abt. 1867), m. Lizzie Wills of Indianola on 18 November 1902 (Is this son William from the 1880 census?) - James P. Blan, 22 Milton (b. abt. 1875), m. Ida Nixon, 17 Milton (b. abt. 1880) on 28 November 1897 (Is this son James from the 1880 census?) - A. S. Blan, 24 South McAlester (b. abt. 1872), m. Ethelyn N. West, 22 South McAlester (b. abt. 1874), on 1 January 1896 (Is this the Sam Bland who married Nannie Cartwill?) - Benjaman/Benjamin Blam, 36 Durant (b. abt. 1855) m. Jennie Hancock, 16 Durant (b. abt. 1875), on 8 January 1891 There is a transcription for Sam Bland, 23 South Canadian (b. abt. 1867) who married Nannie Cartwill 18 South Canadian (b. abt. 1872) on 4 September 1890, but that surname on the microfilm is really difficult to read and could be a different surname. I'll have to look again at the printout that I have from the microfilm. Lee Anne
Regarding the query I just posted. Elizabeth's surname is spelled Cubine on one source document that I have, and Qubine on another. Lee Anne
