    1. [ARSebast] Ethnic Lists
    2. Nan & George Wolf
    3. I forwarded a newspaper article about an1843 slave auction (sent to another AR list) to the SLAVEINFO-L list. In order to find the list I wandered around Rootsweb for awhile and clicked on Misc then Ethnic mail lists. I was dumfounded to see so many Ethnic groups so thought I would share them here in case there is one that you might be interested in. As to what some of them stand for - your guess is as good as mine. The slaves in the Crawford Co. newspaper article had only first names. Jeri had a good suggestion about finding slaves last names - try looking through the 1860 census and hopefully they have not left the area. I'll stay on the SLAVEINFO-L list for a bit so if you have any applicable items that should be sent to that list - send them to me and I'll forward them to the list. 1. [ARSebast] Cemetery in Crawford County needs help!!!
    2. Nan & George Wolf
    3. Hi: I'm sending this in case any of you have ancestors in this cemetery and would like to offer your help across the river. I feel a little helpless here in CA so thought I would do my bit in spreading the word. If any of you have experience in tackling this type of chore - she could use your advice. I suggested contacting the Crawford GenSoc plus the Boy and Girl Scouts who could always use project ideas. I also suggested a Cemetery Cleaning Party with food and music afterwards like a barn-raising. Regards, Nan 71532.734@compuserve.com -------------Forwarded Message----------------- From: INTERNET:ARCRAWFO-L@rootsweb.com, INTERNET:ARCRAWFO-L@rootsweb.com To: [unknown], INTERNET:ARCRAWFO-L@rootsweb.com Date: 7/12/00 10:10 PM RE: Cemetery in Crawford County needs help!!! Attention everyone with ancestors buried at Pevehouse Cemetery in Crawford County!! Today I went to this cemetery and was in total shock to see how abandoned it is. There were tire tracks through the cemetery and in the path was a headstone handcarved and unmarked that was lying there and had been run over! The grass is very deep and some of the graves are covered with under growth and overgrowth. There are many family plots which are fenced off but are covered with undergrowth. There is no one apparently caring for the grounds and in only a few years, this cemetery will be abandoned! I am trying to get together a committee to help clean this cemetery up. We need volunteerss and some lawnmowers and weedeaters. Can you please help me to get this problem taken care of. I don't know the first thing about this kind of project but my husband and I are not afraid of work and we have a mower and weedeater but 5 acres are too much for just the two of us to do alone. Please contact me if you can help or know of anyone who might be willing to assist us. We are willing to do this now or wait until it is cooler but it MUST be done. 2. Thank you, John for all that good information. I will try to locate that on a map and perhaps get back that way sometime, perhaps this fall. You mentioned Tomlinson Cemetery and I know that my ancestor lived in Tomlinson Twp so now I am going to ask the Arsebast list if someone could do a look up in Tomlinson Cemetery for an Evans burial in about 1840. Child's name was Mary Margaret Evans b. abt 1840 in Scott Co. but is not listed on the 1850 Census for Scott Co. with the rest of the Evans family. Rose

I don't know where they received them. Sparks Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Fort Smith. 3. Hello Alene, In Arkansas, Petit Jean, or Little John, is the name of a river, a mountain, a state park, a wildlife refuge, and a small town. All of them derive their names from the river, which heads, as a creek, on White Oak Mountain in Scott County. This mountain is located not far from and almost due east of Hartford, which is in Sebastian County. It is also southwest of Booneville (Logan County) and northeast of Waldron (Scott County). The creek/river flows northwest before turning east, getting dammed up in Yell County, to form Blue Mountain Lake, then continuing it's flow through the wildlife refuge and on by the town of Petit Jean, which I believe is on State Highway #7 north of Ola. The river then encounters the Petit Jean Mountain, which it flows around on the north. The mountain and part of the river are included in the state park, which is located near Morrilton, southeast of Russellville, west of Conway, and northwest of Little Rock. After passing Petit Jean Mountain, the river continues until it empties into the Arkansas River near Morrilton. It would seem that "on the Petit Jean" could refer to the mountain, the river, or even the creek. Good luck in your quest. 3. Charlie, and all the others, I received the notification from Ancestry and Rootsweb that they were now joined. Don't know really how that will come out. I know one thing, I will donate to Rootsweb, which I do and will...but I will not ever pay for another subscription. The girls at Ancestry.com was rude and blunt.... I have run into more information on our Roots County lines than anywhere. Also the people who live close to libraries, and the Washington, D. C. site where all our census are stored have abundance of information. I know other people probably have found information on the Ancestry.com, don't know for sure, but I personally, have not ever found anything but the website information which other people have sent them for FREE. We need to post short excepts of our genealogy so other people on the county lines and see and search through this. I am not a listowner, and everyone of the listowners handle it different. Because I post the obituaries everyday for Sebastian County LIne, I really feel responsible to keep my conversation with genealogy, but I felt like this should be, at least, reported. I was polite and business like, but DID NOT AUTHORIZE for them to withdraw....Watch your credit card billings, folks.
