    3. Arlton Rogers ALMA - Arlton Rogers, 88, of Alma, formerly of Yell County, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Van Buren. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and a member of Church of Christ. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Danville Church of Christ with burial at Havana Cemetery in Havana under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; one daughter, Mabel Coleman of Mountainburg; one brother, Osby of Paris; three grandchildren, Robin Willroth and Jennifer Coleman, both of Mountainburg, and Shari Moxley of Lillington, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ed Taylor, Evell and J.D. Welch, Noble James, Ron Smith and Sonny Dickey.     2. HARRY WILSON, 75, of Kansas City, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001. He was born Oct. 8, 1925 in Pocahontas, Ark. He was a welder. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Wallace and Vader May (McGregery) Wilson; one daughter, Barbara McCoy; and great-granddaughter, Michelle Finley. Survivors include his wife Lois (Fields) Wilson of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Harold Holbrook, Shirley and Frank Fox, and Judy and Jim Bennetzen; brother-in-law Marion Jefferson Fields; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends. Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 at Bible Way Free Will Baptist Church in Cameron. Burial followed at Greenhill Cemetery in Cameron under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home. WILMA WELLS GARRETT, 94, of Spiro, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001. She was born May 10, 1906 in Lowell, Ark. to William and Ruth Pace Wells. She was a homemaker and retired cook for Spiro Nursing Home. Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Bradford Garrett Sr.; parents; three sisters; and five brothers. Survivors include one son, Clyde Bradford Garrett, Jr. of Spiro; three grandchildren, Michael Garrett of Poteau, Dena Cox and Leticia Garrett, both of Spiro; two great-grandchildren, Zain Garrett of Poteau and Courtney Cox of Spiro; one sister, Evelyn Wiley of Rogers, Ark. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 at New Hope Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Avery officiating. Services were under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Pallbearers will be J.D. Gist, Bob Gist, David Atkinson, Bill Seale, Tim Chaplin and David Gill. BILL HENRY GOINS, 80, of Poteau, died Thursday, March 1, 2001. He was born July 10, 1920 in Poteau. He was a lifetime resident of the Poteau area and a member of the Double Branch Baptist Church in Gilmore. He served in the Army during World War II from Oct. 9, 1942 until his honorable discharge on Jan. 12, 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a rancher and worked at Norge (now Whirlpool) from 1962 until 1980. He was a lifetime member of the DAV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Flora Maple Goins; sister, Florene Rhynes of Valley Springs, Calif.; and one brother, Raymond Goins of Stockton, Calif. He is survived by his wife Florance of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Sue and Warner Baxter of Poteau; two grandchildren, Tim Baxter of Tahlequah and Cody Baxter of Stillwater; three sisters, Opal Snyder of Muskogee, Charlene Lierly of Roseville, Calif. and Marie Coleman of Stockton, Calif.; three brothers, Kenneth Goins and Verlan Goins, both of Poteau and Odie Goins of Roseville, Calif.; one aunt, Dollie Goins of Pocola; numerous cousins, other relatives and loved ones; a host of beloved friends. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at Double Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil McGehee and the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. DOROTHY MARIE STARNES, 92, of Poteau, died Thursday, March 1, 2001. She was a homemaker and a member of Christian Biblical Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons. She is survived by two daughters, Sue Ann Hannah of Anchorage, Alaska and Norma J. Brown of Poteau; one son, Thomas E. Graham of Poteau; a half sister, Bonnie J. Johnson of Texas; one brother, John Williams of Odessa, Texas. Cremation services were under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith. NINA SMITH, 98, of Spiro, died Friday, March 2, 2001. She was a homemaker. She was a homemaker and a member of the Woodlawn Assembly of God Church in Spiro. She was born May 18, 1902 at Skullyville, Indian Territory to William and Anna Taylor Mastin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buddy Smith; six sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by his mother. HAROLD EDWARD SCHMIDLIN, 82, of Talihina and formerly of Panama, died Thursday, March 1, 2001. He was born March 9, 1918 in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Schmidlin was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army and a member of the Buck Creek Baptist Church. He coached little league baseball team at the church for several years and was a member of the VFW and a Mason. He worked in tool and die. Survivors include one son, Philip H. Schmidlin of Hartland, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Susan Schmidlin; numerous other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3 at Buck Creek Baptist Church in Panama with the Rev. Charles Evans and the Rev. Sonny Duncan officiating. She was an optician for the Eye Group, a member of Oak Cliff Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher for the senior girls, a choir member and a member of the Sweet Adeline Ladies Barber Shop Quartet. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Oak Cliff Baptist Church with burial at White Rock Cemetery in White Rock Community under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.     2. WHITNEY ROSWELL CHECKETTS, 72, of Heavener, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 in Duchesne, Utah. He was born Jan. 29, 1929 in Bear River City, Utah to Charles and Ida May Stevens Checketts. He married Darlene Barrow on June 20, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. He married Helen Rosemary Wiggins on Nov. 16, 1990 in Greeley, Colo. He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene and 12 brothers and sisters. He served in the Army Reserve. Mr. Checketts lived in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho and Oklahoma where he managed and owned various farms and dairies for the LDS Church and for himself. He retired from the Pierce LDS Church Farm in 1992. He was a member of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in the Texas Louisiana Mission from 1948 to 1950, served in Bishopric, as a Stake Missionary and in many other callings. The Book of Mormon was his favorite book and he shared its teachings of Christ with everyone he met. He is survived by his wife Helen of the home; his children, Jolene (Farrell) Farnsworth of Duchesne, Utah, Roswell (Kerry) Checketts of LaSalle, Colo., McKay (Martha) Checketts of Columbia, N.C., Max (Donna) Checketts of Rexburg, Idaho, Tamara (Ross) Jorgensen, of Grace, Idaho, Thad (Lori) Checketts of Lebanon, Ind., Russell (Wendy) Checketts of Burley, Idaho, stepdaughters, Lavonne (Buddy) Myers of Frisco, Texas, Barbara (Steve) Johnson of Lakewood, Colo., Cynthia Drewry of Heavener; 34 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; three sisters, Minnie Frehner, Marcia Taylor and Arletta Thomley. He was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and the Paint Horse Association. He retired in 1980 from ICX Truck Lines and was also a Rancher.     3. H.F. FINE H.F. "Dick" Fine, 87, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in Fort Smith. He was co-owner of Southern Transit Trucking and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Peters Cemetery in Alma. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Chunn of Fort Smith; one son, James of Fort Smith; two grandchildren, Richard Fine of Fort Smith and Sharon Lazdins of Tulsa; and one great-grandchild, Emma Christine Lazdins.     2. BENITA JO JAMES, 38, of Talihina, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001. She was born Jan. 4, 1963 in Compton, Calif., to Bennie Lee and Hilda Marie Monroe James. She was a lifelong resident of the area. She was preceded in death by her mother; and one sister, Daphne Monroe. Survivors include one son, Phillip James; two daughters, Jillian James and Marlee James; and her father, all of the home; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Russell James of Albuquerque, N.M. and Corey and Brenda James of Talihina; Keith James of Talihina; Michael and Lisa Monroe of Poteau; one sister, Janice Stout of McAlester; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at the Greenhill Baptist Church with the Rev. Lynch officiating. Cremation services arranged by Talihina Funeral Home. BEULAH MCCULLAR PARTAIN, 96, of Bokoshe, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001. She was born March 21, 1904 at Antlers to Alonzo W.A. and Minnie Herron McCullar. She was a homemaker and a member of Bokoshe Church of Christ. She loved to garden. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Partain; four sisters, Maude Kennedy, Deletha McLemore, Erie Burgess and Clara Whitfield; and one brother, Dee McCullar. She is survived by three sons, Edward Partain of Tulsa, Wayne Partain of Kerrville, Texas, and Lanny Partain of Fairfield, Calif.; three sisters, Ruth Broome of El Paso, Texas, Thelma Nixon of Houston, Texas, and Opal Tanksley of Bokoshe; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Bokoshe Church of Christ with Mr. Joe Avery officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro. Pallbearers will be Donald Horton, Bennett Tanksley, Bobby Brown, Wayne Kroft, Fredrick Van Doren, and Jerry Horton. BARBARA EARLINE LEE, 64, of Sallisaw, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001. She was born July 16, 1936 in Honobia to Earl Williams and Geraldine Mickle Williams. She has been a resident of Sallisaw for eight years.She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Gary Mowdy. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Marlon and Jackie Mowdy of Pocahontas, Ark., Brian Mowdy of Sallisaw, and Bill E. and Amanda Lee of Tecumseh; five grandchildren, Rheanna Mowdy, Steven Wenberg, Michael Lee, Madeline Lee, and Alisha Mavon; one sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Gene Heathcott of Mounds; two brothers and one sister-in-law, David and Ruth Williams and Flynn Williams, both of Sallisaw; she is also survived by Charlene Stegall, Drew Mowdy, Bill Lee; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
