Hello, Does anyone have a copy of FTM CD # 712 ? If someone does and would like to help me I could use a look under World Fam Tree Vol 12, Tree 255. In order to tell whether or how much of the tree I can use, I would need the entire tree. The tree contains my Grandfather Elijah Hanpton HESTERLY and 22 others according to the FTM Family Finder. It is the other 22 others that interest me. Thanks for taking the time to read my request. Hal Hesterly in Florida
Lost the email address. Whoever asked for Bird information. I copied a page of Wanda Gray's Scott County cemetery book. Bird Family Cemetery, Weeks, Scott Co, AR: Bird, B.H. - Mason symbol - March 1814 - September 4, 1878 Bird, C.H., Dr. - Mason symbol - July 7, 1809 - March 31, 1872 Bird, Nancy M. - February 3, 1818 - August 10, 1888, w/o B.H. (Bird) Smith, Philip - December 25, 1836, Indiana - October 23, 1879. Two stones, same information. Second states, "Vain World Adieu" 4 other graves with rock markers. Note: Check 1870 Lafayette Twp, Scott Co. AR census for household of Dr. Coleman H. Bird, and 1880 household of Martha Smith. Nancy Bird is found here. Wanda states its possible that Philip Smith was Martha Bird Smith's husband. Thought this might be of interest to some who are from Arkansas: Sunken Cemetery Shames Community: Dozens of graves have caved in at Oak Grove Cemetery and caskets are visible. Trash has been dumped into burial plots and tombstones have sunk into the earth leaving only the top of the markers exposed. West Helena Mayor Johnny Weaver is bothered, too. His sister is buried there and he recently found her casket exposed with only a wooden board for a covering. He said community volunteers decided that rather than wait to identify the responsible party and have that person fix up the burial grounds, they will collect donations and do the work them selves. They met with the mayor Thursday to discuss their plans. (excerpts from the SW Times Record in Fort Smith, Ar. Friday, August 24, 2001) Carolyn angelears@alltel.net
I am new to this list because I finally found ... after looking for 6 years ... the marriage record for my ggrandparents: William Bell DAVIDSON & Mary Catherine FREED. They were married in Sebastian County on October 31, 1889, and their first and only son Ben Freed DAVIDSON was born in Ratcliff/Caulksville, Logan County, AR, January 1891. William was a registered Pharmacist in AR and finally settled in Tamaha, I.T., in about 1893. His advertisement in The Tamaha Banner said he was the 'only registered pharmacist in this section.' Don't know what 'section' that was! For what it's worth, he was a founding member of his Masonic Lodge #8 in Tamaha; so, I think, perhaps, that he might have been an active member in a lodge in AR. I am interested in finding out about any Masonic Lodge connections he might have had in AR and how he got to be a pharmacist ... whether by apprenticeship or college. Does anyone know if the State of Arkansas has any type of records on pharmacists that I might be able to research? I would also like to know if he is listed in the 1890 census for Arkansas (the 1880 census was the one that burned, correct?). Any help on where to look for these two would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Barbara DAVIDSON Norkus "looking for that needle in a haystack ..."

WOW! WHAT A GREAT LIST WE BELONG TOO! I had 2 offers for a look-up and then this: In a message dated 8/21/2001 6:20:15 PM Central Daylight Time, Grandma24k writes: > I have a Lillian KURTS death in Van Buren County, died 7/26/1940 Thank you! It could be her. The tombstone is next to Joseph Kurtz's. All it says is "Mother" with the birth and death year. It is to the right of his headstone. I don't know if its her or not, nor do I even know her name. I have to keep in mind that he died October 7, 1907, at the age of 39. Because it was before death certificates were issued, I have no idea what killed him. I do know he was a preacher. This woman's headstone next to him reflects a life span pretty normal then (1872-1940) and since he was born March 3, 1868, their ages would "fit." They are both interred at Vinita Cemetery in Hackett, Sebastian Co, AR If she went to Van Buren Co, who was she living with??....mmmmm. Would love to see both their obituaries. If anyone out there was the Arkansas death index that includes 1940, could you look up any female KURTZ's that died during that specific year. Should be Sebastian County. Thanks! I have finished uploading photographs that I took on my past two trips for Mt. Harmony Cemetery. I didn't get a chance to photograph as many as I would have liked after I finished transcriping it, but I'll catch a bunch of them next time. If you'd like to see the transcription and pictures, go to: http://www.geocities.com/kinfolkkorner/ and click on the Mt. Harmony Cemetery link. Cates Family, sorry for the email duplication, but thought I'd type this once, considering the time. Enjoy! Adams: Article is story of Doctor E. L. Hesterly. He was born May 14, 1843, in Coweta County, GA; parents Mr. & Mrs. Preston Hampton Hesterly. He received his education in the Georgia schools, and enlisted in the Confederate Army in Coweta County, GA, after finishing high school. He was a private with the Cobbs Brigade Co. F. After the war, he studied medicine in Baltimore, MD. Later, he went to Atlanta Medical College, graduating with honors in 1891. He first practiced medicine in Georgia for 3 years, then moved to Greenwood, AR in 1894, where he continued in the medical profession until he died February 11, 1915. Dr. Hesterly married Mary Pittman at Stateline, GA, in 1885. She was a native of Georgia, and one of her siblings was Dr. W. J. Pitman. The couple bought a home in Greenwood near the 1st Baptist Church. Miss Pauline Hesterly (one of the authors) still lives in the home place. The Hesterly's had these children: Hampton - married Nancy McBailey Hattie - married Will Benefield of Charleston Homer - married Hattie Schooler of Birmingham, AL Virgil - married Abbie Durden of Greenwood Will - single Emitt - married Jean Harvey Pauline - single Maurice - married Bertha Clark Jim - married LaUna Dobbins of Fort Smith The doctor was a member of the Baptist Church, a mason, and a member of the Medical Society. Dr. Hesterly practiced medicine with his brother-in-law Dr. W. J. Pitman until he moved to Fort Smith (assuming here that Dr. Pitman moved to Ft Smith). They shared an office on the upper floor of the Ware's store building. They operated the first hospital in Greenwood on the same floor next to their office. They both performed operations, usually Dr. Pitman did the surgery, and Dr. Hesterly administered the anesthesia. After Dr. Hesterly died, Dr. Bert L. Ware purchased his office and supplies. (When I get my scanner running, I'll email you the entire article, which is quite interesting and also has pictures of Dr. & Mrs. E.L. Hesterly.) There are other articles/pictures with the Durden and Hesterly name. When I get the time, I'll enumerate them and pass them along.
