Sebastian Researchers, I have just recently learned that Sarah Elizabeth (Harlan) Johnson died and is buried in Barling. She is said to have died 1927. I have checked both the AR and OK census indexes for Sarah in 1920 and did not find her. Is there anyone who may have access to a Barling Cemetery Index. It is understood that there was a headstone for Sarah. If anyone can tell me the best way to find information about this cemetery, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks for reading, Clarice

Hello ... again, It's been a while since I have contacted you and thought I would try again. I am looking for information on my ggrandfather William Bell DAVIDSON who was born in Scotland February 11, 1854, and immigrated to the US with a brother/cousin about 1870 settling where, we don't know. Next known information was his marriage to my ggrandmother Mary Catherine FREED (b. 1855 in Tiffin, OH; raised in McComb, Pleasant Township) in Ft. Smith, AR, October 31, 1889. There only child, Ben Freed DAVIDSON, was born January 1891. About 1893, they moved to Indian Territory and settled in Tamaha where William was the 'only registered pharmacist' in the area. He owned the local drugstore in Tamaha and their home was on the lot behind the pharmacy. William died in July 1906 of what, we know not. I'm hoping someone might be able to locate an obit in the Ft. Smith or Stigler papers for him. ANY information would be greatly appreciated. Barbara DAVIDSON Norkus "looking for that needle in a haystack ..."
Sorry, I did not read all of your message. You said the 1880 listed only hh with children under ten. It lists "households" with children ten years old, or younger. The SOUNDEX for 1900 and 1920 are for all "households". NOTE: The 1910 SOUNDEX hasn't been completed for all states. There have been index books printed, one for each state per census year, for the years of 1800 thru 1860. Now, you have to find out who has the money to buy all those books. Some local libraries will have portions of local interest, perhaps donated. Those books list only the "head" of the household, so you may have to watch for uncles or grandparents names as well. In Seattle the Federal Archives has many of those books. Perhaps the Fed Archive nearest you will have the full set. FYI, the LDS has recently put out a National Index for 1880 census along with all of the census. It consists of 20 CDs with the Index and 35 for the census. There is also a CD for a viewer 4.0. It sells for only 49. and can be ordered from the LDS site. The transcriptions are not always the greatest, but you can check the neighbors on both sides. I have found some by looking at the neighbors of other related names, even though the names were transcribed wrong. 1880 is the census that has the Soundex but the Soundex only has families with young children. It has been a very good tool for me. To the Sebastian County Line: Temporarily, I have to discontinue posting the obituaries. The SW Times are very erratic about putting them on line at their website. If they do not post them, I have to manually type all the obituaries by hand, and I am planning a 50th class reunion, plus our 50th wedding anniversary. With all this it gives me limited time for hand typing. I will continue after the 1st of November. I am sorry to not post because this is such an important way of tracking part of your families. 77-41 from "The Henderson Green GENTRY Family," "...Another neighbor of the Gentry family named SMART. Mr. SMART was a restless sort of fellow with a strong desire to be a big wheat farmer. So he sold his farm along Vache Grasse Creek, and moved to Spokane, Washington, where he bought a large wheat farm. Before he left Greenwood, he talked until midnight trying to convince Hense GENTRY to sell his farm and move with him to Washington. Hense GENTRY would not give up the security of his home and farm for an unknown adventure in the far West. The SMART family prospered in Washington growing wheat and the boys returned to Greenwood for visits and always painted a flowing picture of wheat farming in Washington. They sent Hense a picture of 35 horses pulling a combine to (harvest) their wheat. The picture is still in the family. The SMART boys also told about the bitter cold weather in Eastern Washington." She smiled at me. She was clinging to her grandmother and seemed to be pleased to see us....Mrs. WILBURN was very gracious...(she) told us that she lives in Greenwood, Texas. Her Greenwood (my family lives in Greenwood, AR) is just a few miles from Midland, just as our Midland is just a few miles from Greenwood. I thought that to be quite ironic. She is a school teacher and a very good one, I bet. She seemed to have such a way with Jessica, and I'm sure that it carries over into her profession. My grandson's class wrote letters to Jessica, and I took them to her. I told Mrs. WILBURN about the ltters and she said I will personally write a thank-you letter to T.C.'s class. She did.
