    3. Does anyone have access to the complete 1870 Washburn Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas Census? I am trying to find who is listed in the household of Julia Carver. Julia was the daughter of Issac and Mary Carver, who were married in Missouri. Julia is supposed to have had a twin brother, James, who may be the James who died of Bright's disease in the hospital at Fort Smith in 1924 . Julia and James were born in Arkansas, date of birth unknown, but Julia's oldest sister, Polina Carver Leeper was born 1837 in Missouri. Other sisters were Eliza J., Ephanna, Elizabeth, all born in Missouri, and Nancy M, and Sarah, both born in Texas. The last time Issac Carver and Mary are found is on the 1860 Census for Bates Township, Greenwood, Sebastian County, Arkansas. Have not been able to find any track of Julia or her sisters (except Nancy, Elizabeth, and Polina) after the above Census dates. Would also like to know who else was listed in the household of a Reuben Carver on the 1870 Census for Centre Township, Sebastian County. Any help would be much appreciated. Jo Ann

    3. Thanks Nancy. I was wondering why I couldn’t find James Cantley in 1850. It appeared as if the Hempstead and Sebastian Counties Jameses were one and the same, but I could not figure out why he moved to Sebastian County. Ancestry.com lists two marriages for James Cantley of Hempstead County AR: Does anyone have an index of wills that might show a will for the James Cantley (b. 1833 AR) who I’ve read died in Sebastian County or for his Hemstead County father James Cantley (b. 1794 VA) who either died or moved after the 1860 census Lee Anne 1870 Sugarloaf, Sebastian County, AR 66/66 Cantley, James 37 M W AR Mollie 20 F W NC Martin 15 AR Sarah 11 AR Mary J. 8 (this has to be Martha J.) 3. I believe the Hempsted Co. Ark James Cantley and the one in Sebastian are one in the same. There is a marriage for James Cantley and a Saline E. Jones who married in Hemsted July 37, 1854. Sarah age 1 on the 1860 census is Eleven years old on the 1870 census. James Cantley is enumerated on the 1850 Hempstead Ark. census the transcriber has it James Carthy. He is the son of James Cantley b. Virginia and Sarah b. Kentucky. Hope this helps. Nancy M. Boyd --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. 3. I am looking for the mother of Martha J. Cantley (b. 1861/2 AR). I am also looking for more information about her father James Cantley (b. 1833 AR, per the 1870 Sebastian County AR census or 1844 AR per the 1880 census.) Actually, any information about them, including their siblings would be appreciated. They are in Sugar Loaf, Sebastian County, AR in 1870 and 1880. I have determined that the family in the 1870 and 1880 censuses is the same family and James is the same James because the same set of twins is in both. However, Martha's name is incorrect in the 1870 census and James' age is almost the same in the 1880 census as it is in the 1870 census. Censuses sometimes contain incorrect information for varied reasons. James' wife in 1870 was Mollie, age 20. She does not appear to be Martha's mother, as she would have been only 12 years old at the time Martha was born. While that is possible, she probably is not Martha's mother. Martha J. Cantley married J. M. Bland in Sebastian County AR on 15 May 1884. Lee Anne

    3. I am looking for descendents of Willie Jones who used to live at Rt. !, Hackett, AR and is listed in the 1930 census there at age 32, coal miner. I am trying to find information about the Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church South that is now a coon hunting club and is located a few miles down Bethel Road East just north of Hackett, Arkansas. The descendents of Willie Jones may have, or know the location of, the church records, as mentioned by Russell Baker in his email to me. See his email below. Other family members living with Willie in 1930 were: His parents James Jones born 1873 AL age 57 and Bessie born 1875 AR age 55. Also his sister Annie Hadg, Hadge, or perhaps Hodge age 22 WD and James Jones' grandchildren, probably Annie's children: Clifford Hopkins born 1923 AR age 7 and Jennings Hadge or maybe Hodge born 1930 AR age 2/12 I would appreciate help in locating the descendents of this family to see if they might know something about the church and the church records. Russell's message: "The only information I was able to locate on this old church is from the WPA Guide to Arkansas churches published in about 1942. The church was named Bethel Methodist Church, South and was still active in 1942. It was located at Hackett, Rt. 1 Bethel Community. It had been founded in 1877 and the records from 1877 to 1886 were in the hands of Willie Jones, who lived at Rt. 1 Hackett. I doubt that this person is still living. The church went inactive after that date. This is all that I can find. Russell P. Baker, CA Archival Manager Arkansas History Commission and State Archives"
