This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2V.2ADE/1814 Message Board Post: There is a new DNA project listed on the genforum.com/horn message board. Men with the last name of Horn or Horne can get group rates for testing of Y chromosomes (male ancestry) and mitochondria or mtDNA (female ancestry). Cost varies, depending on exactly which tests are chosen. A group of siblings or cousins can chip in for one person to tested, and the results will be good for everyone in the family, assuming that relationships are traced correctly. As more Horn men sign up, the Y chromosome results could link the Arkansas/Oklahoma Horns back to the North Carolina Horn and Horne families. Those of us descended from William Horn and Judy Hickman might at last find out where William fits in. For families that have rumors of Native American ancestry, see the FamilyTreeDNA.com web site for charts that show who can be tested. Either Y or mtDNA testing might give valid results, depending on descent. Only men have a Y chromosome, but women can ask a brother, cousin, or uncle to be tested for their family. Either men or women can be tested for their own mother's mtDNA ancestry, but only women pass it on to their children.
