    1. [ARSEARCY] Ananias Horton (1843-TN/1920+-AR)

    3. Am trying to track down some information about Ananias Horton - son of Mary "Polly" Horton Manuel. He was born to Mary 23 June 1843 in Wayne County, Tennessee. Ananias migrated to Searcy County and eventually married Mary Jane Johnson. He's listed in the 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 census records as living in Bear Creek. By 1920, he was living with his son, Andrew P. "Andy", as a 77 year-old widower. Would anyone happen to know when he died and where he's buried? Need a death date to try and find a death certificate...nobody really knows the name of his father and this is about the last hope of finding said info. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 3. Sheryl: The information I have is that Ananais died Jan 13, 1923, and is buried at the Canaan Cemetery in Searcy Co. I have his father as Unk. King. But, he apparently retained his mothers maiden name, Horton. See the June 1996 issue of the Searcy Co. Ancestor Exchange for more information on this family. The above information is not from my own personal research but from others who have helped me with the Horton family. I'm sure there are others who can add more information than I have here. 3. Contact Ann McDonald the list administrator. She has photos of graves at Canaan Cemetery just outside of Marshall, Searcy Co., Arkansas. That is where Ananias is said to be buried. Date of death is 13 Jan 1928. He married Mary Jane Johnson dau of Robert Johnson and Hannah McCarson. If you have access to Ancestry.com, there is a posting that indicates that Ananias father was "Unknown" King and mother was Mary Martha Horton, dau. of Isaac Horton and Mary Polly Watts. Isaac Horton was b. 1788 in Ulster, N. Y. and died1858 in Leslie, Searcy Co., Arkansas. After his death, Mary md. Greenberry Manuel. Hope that helps. It will be like pulling teeth to get a death certificate from Arkansas. I understand, Little Rock did not require them until 1932. The funeral home in Marshall burned down in the early 1900s and the courthouse burned twice. Carol Lay

    3. Just my luck! Seems just about every courthouse I need to dig through has burned at least once...thank goodness Ellis Co., OK is still standing! Sure do appreciate the information every one sent in response to my query. Maybe things will work out and I'll be able to get a dc for 'ole Ananias - was able to get one from Oklahoma for my g-grandpa who died in 1912. Thanks again!
