Owen L. Martin is my husbands great great grandfather. I have not spent a great deal of time on this line, but, many years back was able to locate quite a lot of early data on them. James Benjamin Martin married Nanny Owen 26 Nov. 1798 in Halifax Co., VA. he was in Wayne County, Illinois in 1820 and 1830. According to Wayne County, Illinois history, James B. Martin migrated to Arkansas. The Martin and Owen folks seemed to like each other and there were other Owen/Martin Marriages in the late 1700's in VA. Joseph Martin md Betty Martin by 1769. It is believed this Joseph Martin died in 1821 Wayne Co., ILL. Betty is nickname for Elizabeth as is Betsy. In the history of Wayne Co., Ill. page 89,Joseph Martin left a widow named Betsey Martin. As well as a son named James. Searcy Co. Tax List (provided by James Johnston) MARTIN, Hiram 1839, 1840, 1841, 1842, 1843, 1850 1852,1853, 1854, 1855,1856 + (Hiram,jr.)1858 Johnson 1839 1840 (later Yell Co.) Ezekiel P. 1839,18431850, 1851, 1856, 1858 Owen 1839, 1840, 1841, 1842 Mary 1839 James B.1839, 1840,1841, 1842,1843 There are other Martins, these are the were ones asked about. Owen L. Martin (Lived Searcy Co. 1840,Van Buren County 1850) b 1812 d unknown...all his children married in Independence County, Ark. 1850-1860. Elizabeth Martin (wife) bn 1813 d unkknown 1 Mary Ann "Polly" Martin b 1833 Md. 10 Oct. 1853 Silas G. Grooms (Independence Co., AR) (My husbands great grandparents) Silas died in civil war in Ga. 2. Tibitha Martin b 1835 Tabitha Martin age 24 to B.F. Rogers, April 21, 1859, Independence Co. by Wm. Hutson JP 3. Daniel S. Martin b 1836 Daniel S. Martin 22 to Matha Rackley 16, Sept 2, 1858, at Residence of Silas P. Rackley, Independence Co., ARk. ME Church South, (The Rackleys and Martins were neighbors in Van Buren County, Ark.1850) 4 Sarah Missouri Martin b 1838 Missouri Martin married Henry E. Grooms 3 Sept, 1858, Independence Co., Ark. (brother of Silas Grooms) All lived in Craighead Co. later. 5. Elizabeth Martin b 1840 (1850 Van Buren Co. census) 6. Nancy Martin b 1843 (1850 Van Buren Co. census) George Martin b 1846 (1850 Van Buren Co. census) 8. Jasper N. Martin b 1849 Jasper N. Martin 27 to Margaret A. Eddings 16, June 22, 1876, Independence Co. by Reuben Phillips JP.. **daughters Mary Ann "Polly" Martin and Missouri Martin both married GROOMS brothers and lived in Craighead county 1860 census and after.
