Hi to the list: Regarding that recent query, the Biblical name is NAOMI. "OMA" may be the phonetic spelling for the familiar Old German nickname which meant "Grandmother". At least, in the German parts of my Missouri family, it did. Another curiosity which I have been told, and which is strictly heresay, is that Missourians in those days used the pronounciation MISSOURA (soft A) as distinguished from MISSOURI (long E) when they wanted to make it clear that their Missouri connections were not Native American. That would not be very politically correct (PC) today. Has anyone else out there ever heard this story, or was someone just pulling my leg? Anyway, you can take the first part, NAOMI, and "OMA" to the bank.
