Hi, thanks to those who have pointed out that Harrison is in Boone County... I should have explained. I don't know what county this family was in. All I know is that it was within a half day or so drive from Harrison, and I know there was other family in surrounding rural areas, which might have been further out in any direction. I thought since Searcy was within roughly the same general area of Arkansas that it might be worth asking. I was just taking a long shot. The Hankins were a wonderful couple, and were like grandparents to me and my siblings. We used to drive out to visit them regularly when I was a child, often staying overnight. My dad was the Air Force recruiter in Harrison at the time, so that's where we lived. I know it seemed like it was a long drive to get to their farm, but I don't know really know where it was. This was in the late fifties, and I was pretty young. I have vivid memories of the time we spent there- but not how we got there. It could be anywhere in that general area. My parents knew other members of the family, too, who also lived in the same general area, but I have no idea in what direction. I only really remember Mr. and Mrs. Hankins. I think one of their children was named Jewell, and I think lived not too far away... but that's all I remember of the extended family. At that time they still lived on the original homestead where Mr. Hankins was born, and that had been built by his grandfather- two generations before him. They were quite elderly then- I would estimate they would have been late 1870' or early 1880's. What I would give to go back and see them again... But, that being impossible, I thought their descendants might would like to share memories. As many of you know by now, I mistakenly signed onto this list, thinking it had to do with the town of Searcy in White Co., and having now realized my error, will soon be signing off- at least until maybe another trail- an accurate one ;> - leads me your way again. When I realized that Searcy County was in the same general region as Harrison, it got me thinking about old times, and the Hankins came to mind, so, before I left, I just thought I'd ask. Before I go, however, I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to the warm caring people I have met here. Despite the fact that my very being here was an error, and thus, my posts inadvertently off-topic, every single person with whom I have corresponded- and there have been a surprising number who have offered assistance- have been kind, caring and helpful. I have been on a lot of lists, and I do believe this one has been uniformly more caring and sharing than any I've ever subscribed to... even to an 'outsider'. I would be delighted and proud to someday learn I had a claim to roots in Searcy County. So it is with deep gratitude and respect, kind gentlepersons, that I bid you adieu... With warmest regards, ===================='leigh
