All of the Turneys as you know descend from Henry and Elizabeth Turney of Liberty in Smith/Dekalb Co Tn. thru his son Isaac Turney who died 1829 in TN and his wife Mary Gilliam. The Stricklands I think began in North Carolina, then some to Alabama.....and there they ran in to some of the other Turneys descended from Henry and Elizabeth. Some of the Stricklands stayed there in Alabama and married into same families as the Turneys. There was movement back and forth between TN, Alabama, and Boone Co AR Turneys and Stricklands. Then some of the Stricklans ended up in Fayette Co Illinois with some of the Turneys......so yes, they do connect several different ways. The Searcy Co AR Turneys and Stricklands were members of the Peace Society. Some were taken in the chain gang and forced to join CSA, some escaped later and joined USA. I know of 3 Strickland brothers who served, with one being killed. Mary hlm@qtm.net
