In 1990 on a trip home from PA, we "did" the Natchez Trace. I climbed a little trail out of the Natchez Trace and found a little, seemingly abandoned cemetery. One headstone was for "Jane. Wife of John Patterson and daughter of Daniel Burnett. Born Oct. (unreadable) l790, died June (unreadable) 1828." All these years I have wondered if anyone knew about the cemetery, as it was in disrepair and seemed to be inaccessible except by accident! (which is the way I "found" it.) So on Oct. 11, (just a few days ago), my husband and I went back to the Trace (storm or no storm, I was determined to find the cemetery again!) With storms the day before and tornadic weather the day AFTER, our trip out to the Trace allowed us beautiful weather! At the site marked on the large sign: MAGNUM SITE-GRINDSTONE FORD, we walked a trail to the Trace and saw a little marker that read: Daniel Burnett's Stand. But this time, instead of a semi-steep-bank to climb, there is a worn and wide smooth trail up to the level where the little cemetery is!! So someone else (besides me) has found it, and although it is not yet cleaned up and/or maintained, some stones have been propped and straightened. I am no relation to any of the people there, that was just my particular mystery to solve. But it has only presented more questions, lol. Bertha
