Simply stated, MT SB443 is designed to prohibit the destruction of old public records [over 10 years] before notifying specifically listed historical agencies, including public individuals. You can follow the pathway the bill has taken by visiting http://www.state.mt.us/ , then click "2001 Legislative Session," then "Look Up Bill Information." This link will take you to a search engine where you can enter SB, then 443. Follow the path and you can read for yourself what the bill says to determine what to say in your letters to the legislators. As of 3/14/2001, the bill has been tabled in the second House committee session. I intend to provide my own outcry to preserve the records for my MT traces on two lines back to the late 1800s.
