I am doing a CLOSE study of the settlers along certain areas of the Buffalo River, in the Richland Creek area and Woolum area. I printed out several of the original Land Patent Deeds from online of many of the settlers there. (I love these old framable documents!). At any rate, one of the Land Patents of ISRAEL BURNS in Section 12, of Township 15 North, Range 18 West, just across the river from Robertson Hill, was first owned and occupied by a Choctaw female named either MOLLY COBB or MOLLY COBLE. On the original land Patent deed her name is MOLLY COBB to Israel Burns. On the Tax records abstracted for Searcy Co. she is called Molly Coble...possibly misread. Does anybody know anything of this MOLLY COBB? I haven't been able to find anything except the tax records of 1851 that Molly was listed on Section 12 and then on the 1857 deed of Isreal Burns the land listed as a Choctaw Patent, from Molly Cobb to Israel Burns..............Just interesting. I know from James Johnston that much of the land in that area could not be patented for many years it was tied up, in that it was Indian Lands and could not be claimed by the settlers who had moved in there.
