    1. [ARSEARCY] James Jackson Barnes
    2. HERE IS MORE FROM THE LETTR: He also served for mny years on County and Probate Jude for Searcy County when Searcy Couty embraced the land now making Searcy and Marion Counties. In those days a County and Probate Judege had more authjority than he does nowl There were not stated times for court but it waas held when needed. He held many tersm of court in Owl's Cove, Wylie's Cove Bear Creed, places on Buffalo River, Monkey Run Crooked Creek, settlements on the White River and other places. In all his afaiars, whether it pertained to court actions, duties as a land commissioner farming church, policits or anything else where it was necaessry for him to form an opinion upon which he might have to act he deliverated much befor making up his mind. Once he had formed an opinion else where it was necessary for him to form an opini nthere wa no earthly power or influece tlht could induce him to change his mind. One great blessing, it was said, tht when he deliberated over a matter and formed am opinion he was usually right. He believed that his Bible taught that before the foundation of the world, that the Creater, God, that whatever comes topass, especialy, by an unchangable purpose the creater. His argumemts were very interesting of course, I can't remember them from hearing them, but he was often quoted when I was a young man. In reading what I have just said you may say that Uncle Jack was an "old fogy". If you did you would be very wrong. Even though he belieed the world to be flat and it floated on water like a board....Most other old people believed that , too. Eventho he was set in his ways, he had great respect for other people's opinion even if they ran counter to his own. Your great-grat-grandmother Barnes died about 75 years ago. I am not able to tell you about her. Your great-great-grandfather Barnes married a Mrs Begley. Mrs. Begley had several children by Mr. Begley. Uncle Jack had several by his first wife, including your greagrandfather James J. Barnes. n the last Marriag to Mrs. Begley, many children came inluding your great Aunt Tennessee Milbury Catherine Sutterfield whi is my wife. All in all I believe that has assembled 22 0r 23 children. "Uncle Jack" in the meantime had beome a very rich man for his time. Of course, his wealth would not be considered great today. You understand that I am not writing grom my memory, but rather from things my father and grandfather Sutterfield tole me so many years ago. They told of the famous festivals held by Uncle Jack Barnes. More later
