    3. That's great information, Faye! Let me know if you've got more info. William married Mollie (M.E. Mary Eliz.?) Duff about 1875. She was from LIttle Rock. Their son, my GF, William Clyde was born in 1880. He married Elizabeth White Bernard in Russleville in1910 and my Dad was born in 1921. Elizabeth was the Daughter of Edgar Bernard and LIllie Mae (Lilly May) Settle. Her LDS page indicates she and Edgar divorced but census records record them living together in Russellville in1920. LIllie's Father, Willis F. Settle also lived in Dardanelles. Dad mentioned the White Hotel in Russellville.....we have a picture of it. I believe Edgar/Lillie and Elizabeth may have lived there as proprietors. By 1900, William M. was out of the picture.......a drinking man as my Dad said. Mollie brought up her own kids and two of her nephews by herself....not an easy thing to do at that time I'd suspect . Dad thought William M. had died in Fort Worth. I checked census records for Forth Worth and found a William Ragland in 1910 that fit closely living in a rooming house. He called himself a salesman. As for the connection between families, Reuben X Anne Walker had a son William who married a woman named Bounds. They had a son, Reuben who lived in Searcy County. Reuben X Anne Walker also had a son, Gideon who married Rebeccah Harbour and had a son, Obadiah (my GG Grandfather) who died in 1851 in Florence ALA. A number of my Raglands stayed in Dardanelles and Russellville. My Grandfather who died in 1960 and Grandmother who died in 1972 are buried there. 1. Re: [ARSEARCY] Ragland in Dardanelles after 1850
    2. Birdlady
    3. Bob, I did find newspaper articles about your ancestor in Dardanelle early newspaper abstracts....he is mentioned in 10 different newspaper articles. Some are better newsy items than others. He appears to have been a well known and respected citizen of Dardanelle. The BEST article I found was this one: Independent Arkansian November 11, 1881 Major J.L. Duff, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Wm. Ragland, in Dardanelle on the 4th inst. (means this month). He was born in Va., in 1802 and has resided in Arkansas for a half century and for the past three years has resided in Dardanelle. For several years past he has been very feeble, but in his earlier years he was a man of plunk and enterprise. He was a soldier in the war with Mexico, and held the rank of Major in a regiment of Georgia Volunteers. Pg. 3, Col. 5 He is shown in a business listing of Dardanelle Dec. 22, 1881, as working for Freed and Block (not Black as I said before), he was their Cotton Buyer...W.M. Ragland. On August 6, 1880 in the DEAD LETTERS FILE at the post office, there is an unclaimed letter for B.S. Ragland. May 27, 1881 in the Organization of Harmony Concil of L.& H. of Dardanelle. W.M. Ragland is listed as a CHARTER MEMBER of the Lodge. And I.M. Ragland as Guide. July 22, 1881 Wm. Ragland is listed as a witness in Ozark court (Franklin Co.) (2 articles) Dec. 2, 1881 Wm. M. Ragland is listed as one of the businessmen who were witnesses to a murder confession. (this is tied to his witness above) He was not affiliated with this crime...many of the main men in town were called to hear the confession. Jan. 6, 1882 W.M. Ragland is Warden of the Legion of Honor, Council No. 587 April 7, 1882 Wm. M. Ragland ran for Alderman of Dardanelle and received 84 votes, 104 was the most received by anybody running. He was elected one of five Aldermen. Last article of possible interest: January 16, 1880 Mr. L.B. Miles of our county, returned last week from his visit to Calhoun county, Miss., His father, mother and sisters and two young men named RAGLAND and TEDFORD, came with him. The excursion will bring in hundreds fo good citizens to our country. Nearly everyone who went is bringing back friends with them, and all report a considerable interest awakened in behalf of Western Arkansas. None of the 1880, 1881 or 1882 are published yet (my first book covered 1875-1879 newspaper abstracts) all these are in my next book, and I am nearing completion...just the last months of 1882 and it will be published also............Faye in Tx. Join our Yell-L-List group and they have ALL the census, marriage, cemetery, tax, land, etc. etc. there on the list to share. 1. [ARSEARCY] Milton, Martin and related families
    2. I began searching for this family 20 years ago. It wasn't until the new age of the computer that I was able to locate them in your counties. I have been overwhelmed with the data that keeps coming in to me. Most of the data that has been documented is on the descendants of Brown Calvin Robert Martin no data on his parents James B. Martin and Isobell Milton or siblings. I am able to fill in another piece of the missing puzzle. Daughter Melinda our Great grandmother. I want to complete the family picture. I feel everyone that has written me will connect to this family from Izard. I am going to begin loading all that I have into my system and begin a Martin and Milton family site for everyone. Please feel free to share your connections. If you have Milton and Martin in your line from Izard, Searcy and Stone counties you probably will connect to James and Isobell. I am looking forward to hearing from you and working on this project. Sandra Howard

    3. I have some questions for Ragland researchers in Searcy county. My Great Grandfather, William M. Ragland was born in 1849 in Florence Alabama and orphaned by the time of the 1850 census. He re-appears with his wife and family in census records in Dardanelles AR in 1880. His father was Obadiah, son of Gideon and the first cousin to the Reuben that settled in Searcy and raised a large family there. According to notes I have, one or two of Reuben's sisters lived in Dardanelles. Can anyone supply first names and marriage names? I'm making a guess that William M. may have been brought up in Dardanelles by relatives. Additionally, if anyone has a stray William M. (probably Montgomery) in their files I'd love to hear from you. Dortha David Allen and Martha Jane GEORGE Green lived in Independence Co. around Cushman, I think this may have been in Izard Co. at times in history when the county lines changed around. they were the parents of my ggrandfather William Allen Green. The only other info I have on her was what I got from census records, that she was born in MS. as were both her parents.
