I'd be more than happy to help it I could. But I can't with the info given. I find no surname PAYNE in the 1850, 1860, 1870, nor 1880 census for Searcy Co. AR. The city of Searcy is in White Co AR - many make mistakes about this. Dear Cathy, (and the rest of the Searcy County list) I just came across your posting about Irma Bradley in the Searcy County AR list. Just on a chance, I thought I would ask you about this. I do not (yet) know much about my Bradley ancestors and their families, but about 18 months ago I was in Little Rock at the Arkansas History Commision and found the direct male members of my line back into Searcy County. I don't have my notes handy, but this is what I can remember off the top of my head at the moment. (my grandfather:) Joseph Anderson Bradley (b. 1908 in Newton Co. AR, d. 1987, La Jolla, San Diego Co. CA) (his father) William A. Bradley, M.D. (d. abt 1953; practiced in Jasper, Newton Co. AR; sister Avis) (his father) Anderson A. Bradley (b. 1851 in TN) (his parents) W. A. (b. 1828) and Sarah Bradley (sibling Martha) But, I have found Anderson Bradley in the 1860 and 1870 censuses listed in Calf Creek Township, Searcy Co. AR. I believe that the town was Snowball. I also have land patent information for W. A. Bradley in Searcy County. Do any of these match up with your information? I'd love to make some progress on this line again... Joe Bradley
Hi everyone, I received this tip this morning and thought that would be a good thing to do. Census Tip - The year 2000 is a Census Year. Most of the census will be taken by mail. After you have filled out your census form why not make a copy of it and file with your important (genealogy) papers. Then your family will not have to wait 70 years to learn about you. Go to http://www.cyberramp.net/~srb/gen which is a huge site about - primarily - the Reeves family. Joel Newton Reeves is listed. Also contact Steve Bemrich, who operates this site. He has a wealth of information on the Reeves family. He might even be able to help on the Stills, Turner, and Brown families. Hi List, I am looking for the parents and the exact birth and death date of Emma MASTERSON. I am also looking to verify the fact that she was born in Searcy, Arkansas. The information I have on Emma is: William Mitchell Jones b. Aug. 5, 1875 Searcy, Ark. d. May 7, 1959 Miami, Dade, Fl. m. Dec. 25, 1902 place unknown. (Parents: John Washington Jones II & Martha Thomas Hamilton) Emma Janette Masterson b. 1873 Missouri d. 1909 unknown. They had 2 children - Arthur F. and William Carthel both born in Marianna, Arkansas. William Jones did not move to Miami until after the death of Emma. Any help in finding info on Emma would be greatly appreciated. I would like to be able to order her documents from the proper states and have her parents names to put down on the request. If someone should be able to find an obit or where she is buried, that would be fantastic. If you find something and you had to pay to get this information for me, please let me know so I can re-emburse you. Sue macduff@citrus.infi.net

February 4, 2000 For Immediate Release Contact: Tracey Converse roots@myfamily.org 501-835-7502 ARKANSAS' LARGEST FAMILY HISTORY ORGANIZATION OFFERS GENEALOGY CLASSES Little Rock-The Arkansas Family History Association recently announced a lecture series featuring national and regional speakers on how to trace your family tree. According to April 1999 issue of Time Magazine, family history research is one of the leading subject on the Internet. With the advent of the Internet, AFHA founder Desmond Walls Allen says, "Reconnecting distant family relations is now easier than before. Many folks find when they get on mailing lists that they have a distant cousin also researching the family." "Our website alone had 20,000 hits last month. Our staff of nationwide volunteers have done over 200 genealogy lookups in the last month." Designed to offer free membership and online lookups to people with Internet access, AFHA has grown to the largest genealogical organization in the state with over 1000 members worldwide. During just the first three weeks of this year, the AFHA Internet Mailing list saw over 700 messages posted about Arkansas history. "The phenomenal growth shows an incredible interest of the people of Arkansas to learn about their families past," said Allen. Education is a major goal of this organization. With monthly meetings held at the Central Arkansas Library's Main Branch, AFHA hopes to educate more people in the fine art of research. Tickets to the classes are $12 in advance and $10 for members. The class runs from 2-5 pm at the Main Library in Little Rock at 100 Rock Street. Monies raised will be used to support the Richard C. Butler Center for Arkansas Studies at the Central Arkansas Library. The February 20 meeting will feature regional lecturer Tracey Converse. Her topic will be "Surfing the Web for Cousins." She will provide insight into how to find your family information on the web. What search engines to use and how to share your information with others. Converse is also the web master for the Central Arkansas Library System and has been on the web for 5 years and researching her family history since 1983. Additional classes are slated for March 17, April 15, May 14, June 11 and July 30. Topics will include Newspaper Research, Beginning Genealogy, Civil War Records, and Native American Research. I have some received some great new info on the ancestors of Lemuel Holsted. He came from MO to Searcy County about 1839. It goes back three more generations. I will be happy to share with anyone from this family. Since the family lived there at least a hundred years it seems likely there are some of the family on the list. Judy

Just wanted to let you all know. That I have received mucho data on these families from everywhere. I am trying to put the pieces together to make a family trail and connect the correct families together. I am having lots of fun in doing this. I wake up at night and a new light bulb goes off. My husband says its the only spark that I have left. Please keep any names associated with these families coming my way. I am still needing help in locating a death place for Isobell Martin that died in 1865. I think Stone Co. Haven't been able to come up with any help on this yet. But I will. I have extended my search to Barry Co., as some of the Scooters ended up there and this is where I found my 1st link to several years ago. These families were well connected. This is just an update. This is for Sue. I'm sorry I deleted your message. Would you mind sending it again.
Looks as if that virus from "messagemates" and "stuart" - the one with the bright blue background and an attachment that promises all sorts of fun and funnies - is back. Got that message about 10 minutes ago. Did not open the attachment and promptly deleted it and emptied the trash and rebooted. McAfee says I'm clean as a whistle <whew> Thought you all ought to know about this so you can stay on your toes. Be careful out there. Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com
