Does anyone have any information about Mary Ann Goodall and Charles R. Stone? Mary was the daughter of James and Jane Goodall; Charles was the son of Mary J Yarbrough and Charles W. Stone. Charles and Mary (Goodall) were in Searcy Co on the 1900 census and may have married in Searcy Co. I have the marriage books by Ruby Lacey and there is supposed to be a Charlie Stone in Volume 2 but I can't find him listed. I belive that I have identified the parents of Mary Goodall Stone's maternal grandparents but I have no proof as yet. Any information, no matter how little, will be greatly appreciated. Why not look in the 1910 census index. That should define the county they're living in at that time. Then look at the 1910 census for the county they're in according to the census index. That should tell you how long they've been married. Then figure out which census index to look in for the county they each lived in before they married. This should greatly narrow your search for a marriage record. I could be wrong, but I think you'll find both surnames in either Carroll or Boone Co. or both. Can anyone tell me if there are any published Deed or Will books for Searcy Co. Mary E Jones
There are no published deed or will books for Searcy County, except Bobbie Mays' tract book (who filed to buy land from the gov't) and Desmond Allen's book on who actually bought land from the gov't. That is a great project, if someone would like to take it on. JJJ Mary Jones wrote: > Can anyone tell me if there are any published Deed or Will books for > Searcy Co. > > Mary E Jones
OK, so are there deed books and will books at the Searcy Co. Courthouse? Cathy Switzer Conn
Kenneth , Thank you for your post on the confederate soldiers of Arkansas. <http://www.couchgenweb.com/civalwar/> . As I was brousing through the site of the 45th Searcy Co. Milita of Arkansas. In it I found a list of the soldiers who were taken to the Chichago Illinois prison. I just recently went to Dover ,Tn. where the confederate Fort Donaldson is located. My great grandfather Jonathan H. Allen was in the 50th inf. . When Fort Donaldson was taken by Gen. Grant my ggrandfather was taken prisoner and placed in prison in Chichago ,Illinois. When I was searching the confedreate records of Stewart Co. Tn. I only found that there was a star * beside the soldier who was imprisoned. It did not say if he had died or been released. My ggrandfather did not die while imprisoned .He did go home after the war but not in good health. It was thought with TB. His wife was later listed on the Confederate widows pension records. I was in hope that you would know where I might obtain a Tennessee list of prisoners who had died there.?? I'm trying to find information on Arburna Huckelby (Burna/Bernie) and family. She was married to R.N. James (we assume in MO) and shows that she was born in MO on the 1880 Census record. R.N. and Burna/Bernie lived in St. Joe. Does this sound familiar? Jan James
I'm trying to find information on William and Lue Vesta Bearden and family. Lue Vesta was married to Grant Baker before marrying William Bearden. She died April 23, 1940 at Harrison, Boone Co., AR and was buried April 25, 1940 at St. Joe, AR. I can't find what cemetery she's buried in - but this info is on her Death Certificate. Lue Vesta had a daughter, Gertie Baker, but we can't find out what happened to her either. William Bearden is the son of Francis Marion Bearden. William was first married to Nancy E. Thompson. Back with the Martins again. Just can't get enough of them. I have received a 2nd and 3rd letter from Malinda Martin daughter of Isobel Melton and James Martin of Izard. Saline District Cherokee Nation Sealed the 30th of June 1872 Know all men by these presents that I. Malinda Hurt have this day bargained, sold and delivered to James M. Bell all of my stock of hogs, 50 les or more running out and around my old place now occupied by and around the residence of RICHARD MARTIN and on Rock Creek. Marked with crop and split in one ear and half undercrop in the other to have and to hold and to use with the said mark running in there same range for full consideration. The receipt of which I hereby acknowledge the right and will to said hogs ( with the exception of two sold to R. MARTIN and three choats sold to C. (last name illegible) the marks of which are to be changed I agree to warrant and or fines to the said BELL in his the money of which I have unto set my hand and seal. Malinda Hurt X R.L. MARTIN J.B FRERHORN ( unsure of spelling) 2nd letter 3rd of June 1872 She is appointing J.M. BELL her legal attorney Now who is R.L. Martin? Her brother is named Richard V Martin as per census, or is this him. Does anyone know where her brother went to? Or is this a relative related to her father James Martin? Anyhelp appreciated. I have more documents coming. This Bell name keeps popping up. The Saline District was in the I.T in 1870, borders, Cherokee and I believe Delaware. Pretty close to Craig Co, Vinita TWP, where the other letter that I have from her also was written in 1872. Or it is possible that Vinita was the Post office for Cherokee County. Her property would of been in Talquagh, I am sure. This is also were she went back to after leaving Barry CO, MO in 1880s. She did spend a short time in Boone,Co, Harrison Twp before moving back to Cherokee, CO. Any help. Sandra

The following was taken from The Marshall Mtn Wave 24 June 1905: Killing in the Territory >From the Ada Daily News, 16th "Last evening about 6 o'clock, near Beebee, Frank Kelley shot and instantly killed his father in law, Jim Reece. It seems that Reece had offered some inducements to Kelley to move here from Arkansas, and for some reason did not come to his agreement. Kelley became angry and made threats on Thursday morning, and while Reece was in the field working Kelley took a shotgun from the house and hid in some rank weeds near the house. Reece came to the house and was warned by his wife not go out, but he would not listen and started in the direction that Kelley was supposed to be hiding, when Kelley rose from his hiding place and Reece began running, but had not gone far when he received a load of No. 4 shot in the back of the head. He ran to the house, being followed by Kelley, who had by this time reloaded, and when within a few feet of him emptied another charge into his back. Kelley gave one of Reece's boys a pocket knife to lay a gun by Reece's side to have it appear that he (Kelley) did the deed in self defense. Marshalls Brents and Chapman went to the scene last night and arrested Kelley, who was lodged in jail here this morning. Brents and Cummings were at Beebee today gathering evidence and Mr. W.B. Johnson will be here Saturday to prosecute the defendant. Kelley does not deny the act and his statement is in line with the above." (Frank Kelley is a son of Mr. John Kelley, one of our well-known citizens, and Mr. Reece was also from Searcy county, both parties having lived on Rocky, and having but recently moved to the Territory. The following is from the Marshall Mtn Wave 19 Aug 1905 Word was received here a few days ago of the death of Frank Kelley, of pernicious intermittent fever in the Territory, on Thursday of last week. Kelley was awaiting trial for the murder of his father in law, Jim Reece, which occurred near Ada, I.T., about the 15th of last June. Both men were formally residents of Searcy county. ____________________________________________________________________ Frank was my gg uncle! Here's to skeleton's uncovered!
