Is there ansyone with the 1880 Searcy County census who could do a look up for me? I am looking for JAMES ADAMS. Not sure of his wife or family. Believe he may have married twice. Possibly to Mary Bailey and or Margaret Treadwell. They may have been in Marion County by that time but I would appreciate someone checking for me. Thanks Judy
Does anyone know where Bear Creek was located? This would have been a populated place and not the creek itself. My grandfather, Eli Griffin, was born there. Thanks. Raymond
I am new to this mailing list. I am trying to gather information on the birth of Lillian Clemans who was born Mar 19, 1875 in Blanco, Arkansas. If anyone can help me with this please let me know. Jill M. Cordone

Hi, thanks to those who have pointed out that Harrison is in Boone County... I should have explained. I don't know what county this family was in. All I know is that it was within a half day or so drive from Harrison, and I know there was other family in surrounding rural areas, which might have been further out in any direction. I thought since Searcy was within roughly the same general area of Arkansas that it might be worth asking. I was just taking a long shot. The Hankins were a wonderful couple, and were like grandparents to me and my siblings. We used to drive out to visit them regularly when I was a child, often staying overnight. My dad was the Air Force recruiter in Harrison at the time, so that's where we lived. I know it seemed like it was a long drive to get to their farm, but I don't know really know where it was. This was in the late fifties, and I was pretty young. I have vivid memories of the time we spent there- but not how we got there. It could be anywhere in that general area. My parents knew other members of the family, too, who also lived in the same general area, but I have no idea in what direction. I only really remember Mr. and Mrs. Hankins. I think one of their children was named Jewell, and I think lived not too far away... but that's all I remember of the extended family. At that time they still lived on the original homestead where Mr. Hankins was born, and that had been built by his grandfather- two generations before him. They were quite elderly then- I would estimate they would have been late 1870' or early 1880's. What I would give to go back and see them again... But, that being impossible, I thought their descendants might would like to share memories. As many of you know by now, I mistakenly signed onto this list, thinking it had to do with the town of Searcy in White Co., and having now realized my error, will soon be signing off- at least until maybe another trail- an accurate one ;> - leads me your way again. When I realized that Searcy County was in the same general region as Harrison, it got me thinking about old times, and the Hankins came to mind, so, before I left, I just thought I'd ask. Before I go, however, I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to the warm caring people I have met here. Despite the fact that my very being here was an error, and thus, my posts inadvertently off-topic, every single person with whom I have corresponded- and there have been a surprising number who have offered assistance- have been kind, caring and helpful. I have been on a lot of lists, and I do believe this one has been uniformly more caring and sharing than any I've ever subscribed to... even to an 'outsider'. I would be delighted and proud to someday learn I had a claim to roots in Searcy County. So it is with deep gratitude and respect, kind gentlepersons, that I bid you adieu... With warmest regards, ===================='leigh
Does anyone happen to be researching the Hankins family from somewhere in or around Harrison, or in the surrounding rural area? This is not my family, but I may have some bits of information for you, and would love to chat with any members of that family. If interested, please write. Regards, ============='leigh
Back in the spring, someone on this list responded to my inquire about Samuel Jones of Searcy Co. There was mention of a younger Sam'l Jones, who was involved with Confederate Regiment during the Civil War. If this person is still on the list, could you please e-mail me again. Thank you Mary

Sorry, I don't have the information you requested, but wondered about your reference in the subject line to "Ancestor Fair"... If this is a genealogy gathering in the Searcy area, could you please forward me any additional information you might have? I'm new to this list, so don't know if this event has already been discussed or not. If this query is dated, and requests information previously posted, I apologize. Thanks, Ann. After scanning thru McAfee and Microsoft and Symantec and Virus Encyclopedia ad infinitum, I now know more about this Melissa-type virus "Killer-Resume" than I really needed to know, but sure am glad I do. Fortunately for my computer but unfortunately for lots of folks who constantly use attachments, I made it a practice when the Happy.exe worm was crawling around to never, ever open attachments unless I check out where it actually came from. So far, it's worked fine for me. Better safe than sorry, right? Thanks again. I have several ancestors who lived in Searcy County--and some are buried there. I just discovered that some are buried in Marshall Cemetery, and others in Duck Cemetery, now called Dongolo Cemetery? supposedly in or near Marshall. Or are they one and the same cemetery? Anyone know the location of these cemeteries? Are they difficult to find? Are they in good or poor condition? I'm hoping we can come over to that North Arkansas Ancestral Fair on June 3 (about a 3 1/2 hour drive for us from OK). If we do, first priority would be to find those cemeteries and take pix of the graves. Also one ancestor is supposed to be buried in Lonoke County, near Austin AR--but I can't find a listing for either of those places. Any ideas? If anyone is curious or has a connection, the ancestors I'm referring to are: James Clark Thomas, m. Elizabeth Lawrence--he died 1886, buried Duck Cemetery, she died 1874, buried Lonoke Co, near Austin AR. Samuel Smyth (s/o of Pinkney below) m. Drucilla Thomas (d/o above JC Thomas)--he died 1940, buried Marshall. She died 1916, buried Marshall. Pinkney H Smyth m. Mary Nowlin--he died 1911, buried Marshall. She died 1920 in Seminole OK, buried Marshall. Samuel and Drucilla Smyth's daughter Bertha was born in Marshall 1885 and m. George Slage 1913 in Marshall. They're both buried in Sperry OK. Bertha and George are our maternal grandparents. Thanks for any advice or help, Patti Jobe
