    3. While searching cemeteries in Yell County, AR I came across the grave of the wife of Lorenzo Segal "Ran" Ruff of Searcy County. Lorenzo was the son of David Crockett Ruff. "Lower Springcreek Cemetery" Yell County, Arkansas Ruff, Ella w/o Lorenzo S. 4 Oct 1875 10 Apr 1904 I found the death notice of Lorenzo Segal "Ran" Ruff in the Arkansas Death Records index by Desmond Walls Allen and he died in Craighead County, Ark. in 1914...forgot the complete date and I don't have my book anymore. Lorenzo S. Ruff was living in a Campbell household in 1880 or 1900 census of Logan County...maybe 1910...his descendant told me. I wonder if Ella was a Campbell?? Faye in Tx.

    2. Gayla DeHart
    3. Thank you very much to everyone who responded to my search for Eligah Paris Mitchell!! And a special thank you to Faye in TX and James Johnston. I now know a LOT more about the Mitchells and their relations. Eligah's mother was Eliza. She and her husband came from SC through GA before getting to AR. Eligah's brothers were Woodard Little and Elijah Millus. Woodard married Lugena Elizabeth Brown. Mullis married Nancy Caroline Morrison. It appears that his sister Jane married Thomas E. Galyean and sister Ann married Daniel Jones. I'm thinking Ann may have shown up on the 1880 census as Usular. I am searching in the direction of Camden, instead of the ever-mysterious Camlin for Eligah's birth place, and have found an Eliza, but am not quite sure if she's the right one yet. That barely scratches the surface of all of the wonderful information I've received. So, thanks to you all. Gayla

    1. [ARSEARCY] Robert Adams/Sintha Cates
    2. Judy Oldziewski
    3. Thanks to Bob Adams we now have the parents and it apppears one set of grandparents of Sintha Cates. Bob told me that when searching for the will of James Adams he noticed a will for Abner Cates in Hopkins County, KY. He did not copy it since it is not his line. However he did note down that Sintha Cates was listed as an heir. With the possibility that Sintha might be the daughter of Abner and knowing she was born in NC I checked NC vital records. I found a marriage record in Orange County, NC for Abner Cates and Stacey (probably Eustacia) Turner 18 Nov 1797. Sintha was born 1798 in NC. Considering that Robert and Sintha named their second daughter Stacey and a son Abner it seems all the proof needed to establish Sintha as their daughter. Then I checked various web sites and list. I found that Abner is the son of Richard and Elizabeth Cates. Richard's will names Elizabeth as his wife, Abner as his son and several other children. I have not seen the will but received an E-Mail from someone who has and there seems no doubt it is the same Abner. NOTE: Robert and Sintha named their first child Elizabeth. As most of the Adams researchers know there has been a difference of opinion regarding the maiden name of Sintha. We may have solved the mystery of Cates versas Smith. Some researchers believe but no proof yet that Elizabeth, wife of Richard was a "Smith". I have several cases in my records where the maiden name of mother or grandmother was used as a middle name. My theory is that our Sintha was "Sintha Smith Cates Adams". She may well have been refered to in the family as Sintha Smith. This could have come down in the family as her maiden name. Just a guess but it does explain the confusion. Hope this of interest to some of the Adams family. I do have some details that I have not included that came from another Cates researcher. Will be happy to share if anyone is interested. Judy
