Hi Listmembers -- I need some information. I would like to know what resources are available for the 1890 era. I know that there isn't a census. I also know that SOME counties have tax lists. Is there some place that lists what is available? If not can you nice people help me out? These are the counties I am working in, Conway, Perry, Pope, Yell, Searcy, Lonoke. Sorry, but someone asked me about a place in Kansas. The message was originally to Thelma. Someone replied and wanted to know about a place in KS. My computer locked up and I was unable to print the message. When I got it up and running I forgot about the message. If the person would inquire again, I'll try to do better. Sorrrrryyyyy... Hi listmember -- First I want to thank EVERYONE for the wonderful information I have been getting lately. It has been truly fabulous! However, I am going to keep pushing my limit. I hope to get some more information on these problems also. 1. I ordered a death certificate for Charlie Edmondson b 1880 d 1966. When I got the death certificate it is not my Charlie! Could someone look again in the Lonoke County cemetery books and check the death date. He is suppose to be buried in Mulberry Cemetery. However, I looked for a headstone in June and did not find him. Suggestions? 2. I found an obit on the Yell County obit page that I would like a copy of. Who do I contact to get it? There did not appear to be a place to request them. 3. I noticed a posting asking about obtaining the information referenced in Cathy Barnes book 1895 Gazette. I, too, would like to know how to obtain this information. Thank you to one and all for any information that I receive. yvonne ____________________________ Colorado Springs, Colorado reply to henson@rmi.net web page: http://www.rmi.net/~henson Names I am researching: BRENT(S), GRANT, EDMON(D)SON, HENSON, MCARTHUR ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
HELLO FELLOW SEARCHERS, DOES ANYONE HAVE THE 1890 AND 1900 FEDERAL CENSUS FOR SEARCY COUNTY WHO COULD FIND THE FAMILY OF WILLIAM HARVEY BIRGE AND ANY OTHER BIRGES WHO MAY HAVE LIVED THERE? ALSO LOOKING FOR WILLIAM A. WRIGHT FOR THOSE YEARS WHO MAY HAVE LIVED IN SEARCY COUNTY. THANKS, MARY BIRGE
Unfortunately, Mary, very unfortunately, no one in the country has an 1890 census. Basically the entire 1890 census burned before it was ever transcribed (except for a mere handful of folks scattered around the country). Just thought you should know before you figure there's going to be a ton of info there for you. It's a bit of a struggle to make the leap from the 1880 to the 1900, but it can be done 99 and 44/100% of the time. Hello listmembers -- Thanks to all the helpful information from the last question I now have another one I need help with. (I don't discount any information that I receive even if I already knew it. I don't always think about things from every point of view!) I found on Ancestry.com the civil war pension "application" for John Harper's wife Jemima. However I can't read parts of it because it is so blurry. I would like for someone more knowledgeable than I am to tell me what the parts are so I can fill out form 180 and request his records. Is there some place that has these records that might have a better copy or something that tells me what I am looking at so I can decipher whether I am looking at a date or call numbers. A different question: If anyone has access to a census index for Arkansas for 1880 I would like to know what is listed for James Wesley Carlock. Thanks so very much for all your help. yvonne ____________________________ Colorado Springs, Colorado reply to henson@rmi.net web page: http://www.rmi.net/~henson Names I am researching: BRENT(S), GRANT, EDMON(D)SON, HENSON, MCARTHUR ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
I think we can all relate to this--ha! Patti LETTER TO MY ANCESTORS After spending a frustrating evening pouring over illegible handwriting in badly damaged and out of focus parish registers and still NOT finding my relatives, I thought it was time to send an open email (at www.ofcoursethereisaHeaven.com) to all my "Upstairs" relatives who have gone to Heaven (99% of them) or the Other Place (1%). The text follows. (Feel free to insert your own relative's names where appropriate.) "Dear __________________: I am your _____________ and living in the early 21st century here in___________, ______. I am sitting in front of a microfilm projector (I'll explain what that is in a later in a special library run by the LDS [nice people, more later on them, too) trying to decipher the small and shaky handwriting of your parish's minister/vicar/ curate (choose one). He must have been either vertically challenged or had palsy -- because it's unreadable! At least I think it's your parish! I'm not even sure of the decade. Thanks for leaving such a good paper trail! (Sarcasm intended.) According to family legend, you and your wife ___________ had _____ children, some of whom lived beyond infancy. Yet not a single one was recorded in the parish records! I can't even find your marriage certificate. You two WERE married, right? Didn't you know that there would be legions of people like me frantically spending their waking hours and small fortunes looking for any and all traces of your lives? Were you just stubborn, couldn't afford the fees, or not members of the Established (or any) Church? You're wondering, "What's all the fuss, we're dead as doornails?" We're not sure, but I think down here we're infected with the same disease: Rootsus obsessionus. Of course, WE are going to leave better records for our descendants! Anyway, I'm glad I was able to vent my frustrations upward. If I couldn't do that, I'd have probably popped the obnoxious researcher next to me who is right now translating an old parish records in German - and out loud, for Pete's sake! I have an idea.... When I'm "dead-on" (pardon the expression) to finding the correct record, give me some sort of sign. Make the projector bulb flicker twice. Or, if it must be done in the privacy of my home, I have a Labrador Retriever. Talk through her. That will get my attention for sure. Thanks for listening. I'll be better in the morning.....I'll be back at the library tomorrow night for Round 14, so catch me there. Sincerely,
This was posted to another list. Just passing it on. Judy HREF="http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4383.htm">http://www.an cestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4383.htm</A> Arkansas Marriages 1851-1900 This is free until 8/17/2000 at ancestry.com. Thought some of you may be interested.

Hi listmembers -- I need some suggestions/help with the family. I would like to know anything about the following persons. I am searching the McArthur line from GA->AL->Perry/Conway County AR. Mable McArthur's mother was Mollie Mary Ellen Harper. Her father was John Harper and his wife was Jimia Brazell. This is mostly theory. I have one census record with Mollie's name on it. I have acquired a Family group sheet for Peggy Blazer's line with some of the above names on it. I am hoping ya'll can either prove or disprove a theory I have about Mollie. Peggy Blazer's Line: John W Harper b 1830 Iowa, Jemina A Jenny Brazil b 1848 Arkansas Children: Rebecca Catherine Harper b 9/18/1868 Perry County, AR married David Jackson Vaught Missouri Emmarlion Harper b 11/24/1865 Perry County, AR married Daniel Bland Theadosha Harper b 1876 *** Mary Emma Harper b 1878 Perry County, AR *** Daniel Bland Thomas R Harper b 1861 Denton C Harper b 1887 AR married Ida ***Could the Mary Emma Harper be Mollie Mary Ellen Harper? Could Mollie's name be Mary Ellen "Mollie" Harper? Mollie was born in 1878 the same year as Mary Emma. I also think it is strange that Mary Emma and Missouri married the same man. Missouri died in 1947. I realize that men married sisters of their wives but I thought that was only when the first wife died. It does not sound reasonable to me that if Daniel and Missouri got a divorce that he would marry her sister. If you know of someone else that might give me a clue please pass this on. Abner had two militry services with the CSA: He was 2nd Corporal, Co. G (Sulphur springs Twp.), 45th Arkansas Militia from Nov 20 to Dec 20, 1861 And Pvt. Co F, 32nd Arkansas Infantry, from June 12, 1862 to August 25, 1862, when he received a medical discharge. According to family tradition he was killed and scalped by Indians in Texas in the 1870-1873 period. His family then returned to Arkansas, I've heard. This relates to the story of the family being haunted by ghosts who even followed them to Texas. Abner bought 120 acres at 75 cents an acre on January 18, 1861 eescribed as w 1/2 of NW quarter and SE quarter of NW quarter of Sec. 35, 14 N, 16 W.
