    3. Below is some emails discussing what seems to problem and I felt that you should be aware before anyone spent their money on a site that seems to have taken other peoples work and now charging for it. I went to one of the addresses listed below to see what was in there and of course couldn't get in without paying. Then I used the other address for "what's new" and accessed it. Then I scrolled down to Arkansas marriages and was taken to someones personal web site that I'm sure is not aware they are now linked to a "pay site" I have written to this person to inform them how they are linked to this pay site. The interesting part is that their personal genealogy had nothing to do with Arkansas marriages I thought I would be viewing. It looks like to me its just someone in to make a quick buck. We on this list freely share our information with each other and if you have a personal web site I don't think you would want someone making a profit on your work, I wouldn't. Ann list manager ********************************************** Hi Ann, There seems to be an uproar over a website, perhaps taking money under false pretenses or something like that. I have not subscribed to the site myself so I know nothing firsthand. Larry Stephens of @indiana.edu is asking for people to write him if they have had dealings with this web site. Since you have two or three lists, this might be worth watching. I received the message below from TXHunt-L. Raymond Greetings, listers. I received this on another list I subscribe to and though I should send it to all of the lists I moderate for your information. About 10 days ago, to investigate this, I signed up with familydiscovery. To date, I have not received a user id or password to get inside. The registered owners of the web site gave bogus telephone numbers in their registration. One number goes to a recorded message line; the other to a carpet company. Some of the e-mail adds on their web site bounce. Standing on the outside and looking through the window, it appears that several folks' web sites have been prize-mined: http://www.familydiscovery.com/whatsnew.htm The Storey Co., IA and the Washington Co., PA stuff seem to come from USGenWeb sites. Some of the other IA and NC stuff seems to come from non-USGW sites. None of the materials seem to be housed at either rootsweb or usgennet. Molecular Genealogy links individuals together in "family trees" based on unique identification of genetic markers. In order to reconstruct molecular genealogies it is necessary to utilize known biological relationships and correlate this information with the transmission of genetic markers through time. Throughout the world there is intense interest in the origins and histories of people. Some of this information is transmitted through oral or written histories. Unfortunately, the history of some peoples and communities has been lost or destroyed through time. By utilizing the genetic record that each individual retains of his/her past, it is possible to reveal important clues as to their origin and relationship of any individual toother persons orpopulations. It will be possible to establish ancient immigration and migration patterns... Anyway, I was very interested because my grandmother would not talk about our Indian heritage. I want to do this to see if I have any Indian blood or not. I checked to see how I could participate in this study. I was told if I could get 100 + people, they could be here in about 3 months. You have to be 18. They will take about two tbsp of blood and it will be drawn by an experienced phlebotomist. You have to also have a four generation pedigree chart filled out as best you can. This will be used for future study. It is completely private. The results will be under lock and key. It takes about 10 mins. to do and they will pay you $10. Shoot, I would pay them $10.:) If any of you locals are interested, call or e-mail me. Thanks, Judy Phillips Franklin County --------------344629F1EEF155DADEE3C3BE--

    1. Re: [ARSEARCY] Martins in Searcy Co
    2. Mary, Good to hear from you again. Well, Mary, everytime I think that I have figured this family out more pops up and it becomes so confusing. Let me tell you where I am at and what I am working on. I don't know if I told you that I received a Dawes application for Malinda Martin daughter of our James Martin. I have always been told from the family that she was of Cherokee heritage. No one took this to be true. Because of the documents it can't be denied anymore. In this application was also another application from Cornelius L. Martin a relative of her's also asking to be recognized as a Cherokee. It names Cornelius father Ezekial Martin. You will find both of these persons on the Searcy Co, census. Then it mentions Cornelius grandfather Hunting "Jim"Martin that is Cherokee and is on the 1835 rolls. Our cousin in OK researched this at FT. Smith and found James Martin on the rolls for 1835. Now this family ties into Brigadier General Joseph Martin of VA line. His father is Joseph Martin SR b bet 1700 and 1712 in Bristol. England he had 3 wifes. you can find this line on Rootsweb world connect. I believe that 1 of his wife's is James Martin's mother. Probably Elizabeth Ward as I believe that she is the Cherokee and this is where it comes in. Now I am researching in Halifax, VA, to see if these families are the same. I went to the Wayne Co., ILL site and found James B. Martin, Joseph Martin, JR. Joseph Martin Sr, Owen Martin and Henry Martin on the 1820 census. Owen Martin is in Searcy, CO on the 1840 census. Is he the same person? Now we have Nicy Martin daughter to James Martin and Malinda's sister married to John Martin residing in Van Buren Co., AR and finally in Rollo, MO. And when I went into Wayne Co., ILL. Guess what their are Melton's. James married Isobell Melton, and the story goes that they married in ILL. Isn't this interesting? Also now we have the possibility that James Martin's 1st wife that died in VA was an Owen? Could Owen be his son from his 1st wife? another interesting thought. I haven't studied the census yet. will do it tonight. Hope that I haven't confused you too much. I tell you I just can't keep up with this. I have sent for Ezekial Martins war record's. He was in the Mexican war. This should help us to figure out who Hunting Jim Martin was anyway. Could it be James Martin? Any idea's on any of this? Sandra

    3. Owen L. Martin is my husbands great great grandfather. I have not spent a great deal of time on this line, but, many years back was able to locate quite a lot of early data on them. James Benjamin Martin married Nanny Owen 26 Nov. 1798 in Halifax Co., VA. he was in Wayne County, Illinois in 1820 and 1830. According to Wayne County, Illinois history, James B. Martin migrated to Arkansas. The Martin and Owen folks seemed to like each other and there were other Owen/Martin Marriages in the late 1700's in VA. Joseph Martin md Betty Martin by 1769. It is believed this Joseph Martin died in 1821 Wayne Co., ILL. Betty is nickname for Elizabeth as is Betsy. In the history of Wayne Co., Ill. page 89,Joseph Martin left a widow named Betsey Martin. 1. [ARSEARCY] Oklahoma WW2 book
    2. yvonne henson
    3. Hi Listmembers -- I have on loan from the library the Fighting Men of Oklahoma for WW2. I have volume 2. If someone has a name that might be in the book I would be willing to scan and send information. If someone is in OK and has access to a library please see if there are other volumes or at least volume 6 of this set. It is suppose to be in the Airport museum library. I am looking for Claude E Grant. (I am going to try for vol 6 through inter-library loan.) Thanks for your help. ____________________________ Colorado Springs, Colorado reply to henson@rmi.net web page: http://www.rmi.net/~henson Names I am researching: BRENT(S), GRANT, EDMON(D)SON, HENSON, MCARTHUR ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://home.netscape.com/webmail

    1. [ARSEARCY] 1850 OOPS
    2. Mysty McPherson
    3. Sent the wrong URL for the Searcy Co 1850 census. This one should work. ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/census/ar/searcy/1850. Guess I'm too used to typing www after the 2 slashes. Sorry about that. Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com

    1. [ARSEARCY] Martins in Searcy Co
    2. Clairice, I am working on the James Martin line from Izard and Searcy, CO. He is from VA. I would love to get together with you. It appears that your Johnson Martin showed up about the same time as my James before 1837. My James is of Cherokee heritage and has ties in OK and MO, I have been trying to prove that he is related to Brig. Gen Joseph Martin from VA. Getting close. Or I have been on 1 heck of a wild goose chase. Sandra
