Trying to uncover Indian lines. Searching for the family lines of HENSLEY....CHRISTY....WYATT...JAMESON I have been told of lines in our family poss. tied with Indian descent. After going over family records have narrowed it down to these 4 lines. James C. Jameson and wife Dulcenia Wyatt both from St Joe Searcy Co. Their son was Alexander Sheridan. His wife was Lula Abbie Gail Hensley daughter of Porter M. Hensley and Elizabeth Mae Christy. Wondering if Elizabeth Mae Christy might be Indian due to the hard time of locating anything on her line. Have her father a John Christy but only Elizabeth for her mother. Have been told that family came along the Trail of Tears. Also have Indian blankets that been in the family atleast 4 generations. Mom remembers seeing them on her grandmother Cora Elizabeth Jameson..daughter of Alexander S. Jameson's couch. Other family members with ties to the Jameson line through Cora's marriage to Renfroe have been recieving profits shares from oil wells on Indian lands. Thanks for any help in locating and solving of this family mystery. kim

Dear Shirley, This, I believe, is the origin of the story: When the Indonesian volcanic island Krakatoa blew up in 1883, it did so with such fury that it is said to be several of the loudest noises in recorded history. My grandfather in central Texas (age 5) claimed to have heard it! (He said that the family believed (incorrectly) that a new Indian war had broken out, and the army was firing artillery! What it also did was to put so much volcanic ash and rock into the air that the global climate actually cooled (reduced sunlight) for several years. This is, at least in part, the origin of the "Summerless Summer". Here is what the MS Encarta Encyclopedia says of Krakatau or Krakatoa: Krakatau, also Krakatoa or Rakata, small volcanic island, southwestern Indonesia, in the Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra. Until the night of August 26-27, 1883, Krakatau had an area of about 47 sq km (about 18 sq mi); at that time, a volcanic eruption and its consequent explosions destroyed most of the island, so the present area is only 16 sq km (6 sq mi). The waves produced by the submarine earthquake that accompanied the eruption attained a height of 15 m (50 ft) and traveled some 12,875 km (some 8000 mi); they killed thousands of people along the coasts of Java and Sumatra and destroyed incalculable amounts of property. One explosion produced one of the loudest noises in history; it was heard at a distance of 4830 km (about 3000 mi). The rock ejected was in the form of fine dust, which was diffused by aerial currents throughout the upper atmosphere; for three years thereafter, observers all over the world reported brilliant colorations of sunrise and sunset, caused by the refraction of the rays of the sun by these tiny particles. The island displayed volcanic activity again in 1927, and the inhabitants were evacuated; the island is now uninhabited. Encarta® 98 Desk Encyclopedia © & 1996-97 Microsoft Corporation. Dear List members, Regarding this letter that was sent to our list resently please do not respond to the list. This type of letter is usually a hoax anyway and I ask that no one send a message like this to the list. Send to your personal address book if you must but not to a Rootsweb list. Any message that does not relate to Searcy County research or the surrounding counties MUST be approved by me. Let's keep our list litter free. I also have a closed list so anyone who is not subscribed may not send to the list. Rootsweb also goes to a lot of effort to keep spam from coming to you from the list so lets do our part. Thanks. Hi Listmembers-- I just got a new lead on my Grant line. Does anyone know the following persons? They are from the Yell county area. Louis Gamble married Mattie Elizabeth Taylor (where and when?) They had 2 daughters Lura b 10/3/1890 and Lona b 12/28/1894 (where and when?) What happened to Louis? Did he die or did they get a divorce? I know Mattie Gamble married Wayne Grant in Conway County in 1903. I have check the census records from 1900 - 1920 and tracked Wayne Grant. On every census record the only child listed in Claude. If anyone has the time to pursue this for me (I am in Colorado Springs) in Yell county, I would gladly reimburse any expenses. Maybe some of the WATTS researchers on the list can help with this. There seemed to be a lot of Greenberry's in Searcy county over the years. The TREECE family had two Greenberry's that I know of the older Greenberry md Mary Ann "Polly" Begley and they had a Greenberry but I don't know who he married. Polly's sister Sarah Elizabeth Begley md James Albert WATTS. So maybe some of you out there have just the information Barbara needs. Searcy County wore me out this weekend but had a great time at the WATTS Reunion so I'm off to my own bed now. You might have some luck at this site http://209.196.125.11gen. It's a temporary new site created by Steve Bemrich at which his "North Arkansas Family Tree Farm" site will shortly be permanently lodged. Reeves is one of the primary families on this site. It probably has everything you looking for. If not, go ahead and email Steve - he's very helpful and does everything he can for folks. His original site (which is exactly the same as his new one) can be reached from http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion under researcher homepages if you have a problem with the new site. Ok I have been trying to locate some information on some Reeves and some Turners. I am mainly interested in what happened to the children of Sally STILLS, BROWN, TURNER, REEVES. Sally was first married briefly to Samuel Brown then from abt 1880-1890 she was married to a James Turner, then from 1890 on she was married to Joel Newton Reeves. Any help on these two lines would be appreciated. I already have the information on the Reeves line from Joel back but not from Joel forward. I'm looking for help with a the Lewis' of Searcy County!!!! I have an interest in a couple of LEWIS men who married into my TREAT family in Searcy County, Arkansas. One was William H. Lewis born around 1841 & died in 1909. W.H. Lewis married my great great Aunt Sarah Curtis Treat..this was a second marriage for both....the other Lewis connection is for my other great great Aunt, Rena Treat, who married John Grant Lewis in 1897. John Grant Lewis was born in Ill. or Iowa around 1868 & died in Lonoke County, Arkansas in 1923. John Grant appears young enough to be W.H. Lewis' son; however, I have not been able to make a firm connection.....John Grant Lewis was know as "JACK" Lewis....can any of you help me connect these two LEWIS men to their fathers and grandfathers???? Thanks for your time!!! D. TREAT Marshall, Ark
I just received this message and usually check it out before sending to the list. I am getting ready to leave for Searcy Co. for the WATTS Family Reunion so will be out of contact until Monday. Just returned Tuesday night from Neshoba & Newton Co. MS from a family funeral. My first cousins husband Eugene Buntyn died October 14th and was very well know in the area. It was estimated that over 1000 turned out for the visitation on Monday night. Just wanted everyone on the list to be on alert and very cautious of what you open. Don, I found a few Izard County Tax Records to go with the Henry Mann and there was also in 1850 a Matthew S. Mann in another township, he was age 32 in 1850. Izard County, Arkansas, Tax Records, 1829-1866 Mann, Barbary Ellen 1859 Mann, Barbary Ellen 1861 Mann, Henry 1853 Sec 1, Twp 15 N, Range 11 W Mann, Henry Estate 1858 Mann, Henry Estate 1859 Mann, John H. 1853, 1859, 1866 Twp 14N Range 11W Mann, John H. In the 1860 and 1870 census there is a John Henry and he is a Methodist Minister, however, the ages very and I wouldn't attempt a guess as to whether it is the son of old Henry or it is him...if it is he got younger. smile Maybe these Manns of Izard Co. will prove to help you. Since your Searcy Co. Manns were in the very NE cornor of Searcy County, that became Baxter Co. in 1880's or 1890's, they were still fairly near their Izard Co. families. In a later census in Izard there is a younger David Mann. Don, I have studied the Mann, Manes, Manns of Searcy County and surrounding areas as my Searcy County Jameson/Jamison folks were related to the MANN family of Washington Co., MO. and we wondered if some of their Mann relatives may too have come down into North Arkansas and Searcy County. The Civil War data you posted could be your David Mann, however I believe that David J. and D.J. listed together in the Confederate Records could be the same man. And D.J. Mann's wife drew a widows pension on him in Dallas Co., Ark. Mann, D.J./; widow; Fannie H.; Co. I, 12 Ark Inf.; she applied; 1911 Dallas Co. Confederate Soldiers: Mann, D.J.; Co. I; 12 Ark Inf.; Pvt/Pvt Mann, David J; Co. D new; 6 Ark Inf; Pvt/Pvt Manes, Wesley; Co. K, 14th Ark Inf; he applied for Invalid Pension; 1892, Searcy Co. In searching for DAVID MANNS of 1860 Searcy County, and PETER MANNS of 1870 and 1880 Searcy County, they can both be found in 1850 Izard County. I believe your DAVID and PETER MANNS are the older and younger sons of Henry MANN of Izard County, Arkansas 1850 Arkansas Census Report MANN, Henry 50 VA, Elizabeth 44 Tn, Mary 17, DAVID 15, John 12, Nancy 10, Paul 8, PETER 5, Dwelling 112, Blue Mountain Township, Izard County, Arkansas. In 1860 Searcy County, David Mann is age 22 and in 1870 Peter Manes is in Searcy County, age 24, seems like they fit the Henry Mann family of Izard county fairly well. David MANN is living with Littleton Baker in Big Flat for the 1860 Searcy County Census, according to Wilma Norton, and is listed as School Teacher. Is that the same David J. Mann who was a member of 6th Arkansas Infantry, Company D? Have not been able to find a roster for Company D,. Company A was the Capitol Guard at Little Rock. Anyone know what and where Co. D was and where the roster might be found. Don Ott
