    1. [ARSEARCY] Marian Burnes' books
    2. Mysty McPherson
    3. Jan, all the books Marian Burnes has published and has for sale are listed on the Marion Co web page. Look under "Resources for Researchers". There's lots more listed than just Marian's books, too. A real "wish list" of goodies :-))))) Marian's books are: "Marriages 1887-1896" [$12] "Marriages 1896-1905" [$15] "Marriages 1905-1917" [$15] "Cemeteries" [$25] "Early Days" [$25] Currently, Marian is *not* filling any orders because of her health. However, Vicki Roberts (co-author of some of the books) *is* filling the orders. You can order from her (unfortunately, she's not online). Make checks payable to Vicki. Vicki Roberts 2363 MC 5032 Yellville AR 72687 870-449-6195 after 7 pm CST Hope this helps. If you have any questions, let me know. I'll do my best to answer them. 3. The 1820 census (also 1830) index for Hickman County TN is on line at the Hickman County Home page. The are a number of Searcy County names on in including Melton, Parks, Reddin, Sooter, Sanders. You might want to check it out for your family. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnhickma/1820Census.htm Judy

    2. Judy Oldziewski
    3. As some many of you know I have been doing some research on the Sooter family which ties into the Melton/Palmer/Moody families. I have a transcribed copy of William Sooter's will made in 1824 in Carroll County TN and proved in 1825. I also have transcribed copies of deeds where his land was sold, apparrently after the yougest children came of age. His will names his wife Elizabeth, children Pemeley, Leonard, William (R), Edward (Greenberry), Berry (Greenberry)**he did indeed name 2 sons Greenberry***Edward was usually called Ned and Greenberry was Berry********then Nicey, Sally and Eli. Now we know that the Elizabeth Brown Sooter who William was married to at the time of his death was the mother of Eli (he was Eli Brown Sooter) but do we know she was also the mother of the older children. For reason too complicated to post on the list I think this may have been a second marriage. At least one person posting on the web shows Edward Greenberry's mother as Elizabeth Russell. William could well have married two Elizabeth's. Does anyone know if Permeley, Leonard, William, and Berry had a different mother than the three younger children. At least Eli, Edward and Sally were under 21 when the will was made. Anyone with info on any of these families I would appreciate hearing from you. Anyone interested on more info re Ned Sooter, Berry Sooter, Isabelle Palmer or Sparlin Moody should go to http://genforum.genealogy.com/fly/ Go down to the 6 part history posted Feb 15, 200 by Darlene Ames Fly. It has some really good info on all these families. Judy

    3. Hi Kenneth, James Melton and Permelia Sooter are also my great great great grandparents and I too have researched James Melton's lineage for years with NO success...I have found a James Melton on the Western Cherokee Indian rolls that seems to fit OUR James Melton...based on what I have found, James Melton's movements WEST seem to parallel the Indian removal era (Trail of Tears)...James Melton & William Ragland seem to be contempararies who moved from Tenn. into Missouri by late 1820's & early 1830's. William Ragland's son, Reuben, married James Melton's daughter, Nicie A. Melton and come into Searcy County area of Arkansas by 1835 or so....some say Reuben and Nicie married in 1836 IN Searcy County & lived in Wiley's Cove along side Chief Wiley and the Indians who were there.....I have just about concluded that the reason Reuben and his wife, Nicie, co-exisited with the Indians so well, is because Reuben & Nicie Melton had a lot of Cherokee blood themselves....there is evidence that William Ragland's wife (Reuben's mother), Elizabeth (Elabestle) Polly Bounds, was also Cherokee, which further supports my theory.....anyone else want to jump in on this???? 3. Have done as much searching as I can here at home. Some of this may be of help to you. The only Samuel Brown I find in Searcy Co is Samuel U. Brown b AR 1861. He is living with the John A Moore family in Tomahawk Township, Searcy Co. AR in 1880 and is single. JOEL NEWTON REEVES (son of Asa & Charity [Baker] Reeves) b Searcy Co. AR 1855 m Searcy Co. AR bef 1880 Emeline E. ___ b Searcy Co. AR 1858. In Calf Creek Township, Searcy Co. AR 1880 with no children. Searcy Co. 1870 census - Tomahawk Township: Joshua Stills 38 KY. Mary 41 wife TN [prob 2nd wife] Milley 70 mother KY blind. William F 19 son AR. Joshua W 15 son AR. SARAH F 11 dau AR. Francis M 3 son AR. Jasper Reeves [son of Asa & Charity {Baker} Reeves] 21 s-in-l AR. Mary Jane [Stills] 17 wife AR. Married Sep 1869. Jasper Reeves & Joel Newton Reeves are brothers. Mary Jane Stills & Sarah F Stills are sisters. The Joshua Stills family is not in Searcy Co nor in Marion Co in 1880. And I find no listing for a Samuel & Sarah Brown in Searcy Co in 1880. I find only one James Turner in Searcy Co in 1880 - he's 8, b MO, son of Jess & Margaret C (___) Turner. There are no Turners in Marion Co in 1880. I'm guessing that Joel Newton Reeves' wife, Emeline, died before 1890 when he presumably married Sarah (Stills) (Brown) Turner. If some more of this blasted ice will melt tomorrow, I *might* get to the library and get some research done that I can't do here at home. If so, I'll see what I can find there for you. Haven't been off the farm since the Friday before Christmas. The larder is showing some truly bare spots that must needs be filled so I really should try to get out tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for me, okay? Meantime, hope some of this is useful. 3. I have the 1840 full State census, also 1830, 1820 (reconstructed) and 1850 full state census. In 1840 my Jamesons who lived next to Lucinda Baker and C.C. Robertson in 1850, were in Searcy County, HOWEVER, there was one LONE son, James C. Jameson who was in the Izard Co census in 1850, possibly very near by at that time. James C. is the one who owned the largest amount of land up there on Jameson Creek and Jameson Hill or Bluff. He married Dulcenia Wyatt, but, he was much older than her, and he appeared to be married in the 1840 census, so I suspect he married before Dulcenia but, none of us know if he did or who SHE was......................Faye ----- Original Message ----- From: Mysty McPherson <shakerag@mtnhome.com> To: <ARSEARCY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 03, 2001 9:07 PM Subject: [ARSEARCY] Lucinda Baker > Well, Cathy, I've been thru my two Baker databases, checked MCAR & SCAR > records, checked several sources on the Internet, and I still can't come up > with who Lucinda Baker was, let alone who her husband was.
