Posted on: Searcy County, Ar Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Searcy/11591 Surname: Strickland, Turney ------------------------- What I have about this family is very little. The only thing I have is Bowman J. Turney b. 1830 TN died 4 June 1862 Corinth,Mississippi, killed Civil War Battle of Shiloh. Married Laura Ann M. Strickland (daughter of Samuel Smith Strickland and Aetna Jane Robertson)on July 28, 1827 in Lawrence Co., Tennessee. Laura was born December 13, 1807 TN and died September 04, 1871 in Searcy Co., AR. The only child I have listed for them is William Zack Turney born 1859 in Searcy Co and died abt 1950 in Valley Home, California. Laura married again to Christopher Wortman after Bowman died and had 7 more children. I don't know of any daughter that Laura and Bowman had that married a Jones. There could have been I just don't have it down. Paris G. Strickland born 6 Dec 1831 AL married Catherine L. Jones who was born about 1833. Paris was the son of John Gordon Strickland and Cinthia Robertson. John and Cinthia had 2 other children Green and Frances. Oct 9-1850 Searcy Co.,AR Census - shows Cintha and children living with John Wortman 54 , Cinthia 44 b. KY, Paris Strickland 19 b. AL , Green Strickland 17 b. AL , Christopher Wortman 17, Mary Wortman 15, Frances Strickland 15 b. AL ,Sarah Wortman 2 AR (Sarah may be John Wortman and Cinithia's) I think Cinthia married John Worthman after John Strickland died. 1860 Searcy Co AR Census, page 870 has: P. G. Strickland 28 b. AL , Katherine 27 b. TN. Paris is also mentioned in a book " Yellar Rag Boys". If you have more than this please let me know, because this is all I have. I do have more on the Paris's father's family the Stricklands, but no more on these people.

    1. [ARSEARCY] Message from listowner
    2. Ann McDonald
    3. Hello List members, I will be leaving early in the morning (Thursday) for Searcy Co. and the Ancestor Fair which is this weekend. Below I have copied a message from McAfee which I subscribe to. A few days ago there was a Virus warning on our list which turned out to be this HOAX which you can read about below. This is why I always ask that you e-mail me about any warning you receive before sending to our list. Rootsweb has a filter which prevents us from receiving a virus from Rootsweb. That is also why Rootsweb doesn't allow attachments its for your protection. Wish you could all meet me at the FAIR. I know it will be great as it always is. James Johnston always puts lots of time and hard work into this weekend. Happy Hunting, Ann Bohannon McDonald Listowner ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear McAfee.com Dispatch Subscriber: An email HOAX has been circulating recently that has received a lot of press and public attention. The subject line may contain "***Virus Alert***" or mention SULFNBK.exe. If you receive a copy of this message, you should ignore it. Do NOT pass it on as this is how an email hoax spreads. You may receive a copy of this message from addresses that you recognize. DO NOT DELETE ANY FILES FROM YOUR COMPUTER. There are several versions of this message circulating, in several different languages. The email message may appear in part as follows: "A VIRUS could be in your computer files now, dormant but will become active on June 1. Try not to USE your Computer on June 1st. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS BELOW TO CHECK IF YOU HAVE IT AND TO REMOVE IT NOW." "No Virus software can detect it. It will become active on June 1, 2001. It might be too late by then. It wipes out all files and folders on the hard drive. This virus travels thru E-mail and migrates to the C:\windows\command' folder." The email will also instruct you to delete SULFNBK.exe and to pass the message along to everyone you know. SULFNBK.exe is a standard part of the Windows operating system and SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED.

    1. [ARSEARCY] Society has new book
    2. Mysty McPherson
    3. The Historic Genealogical Society of Marion Co has just published "Gleanings of Pioneer History" by W. R. Jones. Owner/editor of "The Mountain Echo" for many years, Jones memorialized much of the historical and genealogical data found in his newspaper in around 1928. Many of his stories were told to him by the children and grandchildren of the early pioneer settlers of the county. With basically no county records prior to the Aug 1887 courthouse fire, Marion Co researchers have leaned heavily on writers such as W. R. Jones for information that can be found nowhere else. "Gleanings of Pioneer History" officially goes on sale Saturday, 2 June, at the 12th Annual North Arkansas Ancestor Fair in Leslie. It's small, approximately 5" x 7" and soft bound. Society past-Chairman L. Don Ott transcribed it from the original. The cost is $5. It can be ordered directly from HGSMCA, PO Box 716, Yellville AR 72687. Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com

I have Vol 13 Searcy Cemeteries, and the Turney Cem is listed as being on Ben Taylor's place, sounds like two different ones. It is probably listed in one of the Cemetery books, I just don't have the others. I haven't done as much on this family, since my line is more directly linked to the Strickland line.

I checked this out at the following URL for hoaxes of all types, just on the possibility that someone out there with a warped, perverted sense of humor might be having fun watching others (all of us) mess up our hard drives by deleting otherwise valid, legitimate files. Definitely a hoax. Here is the address, check it out for yourselves. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/sulfnbk.exe.warning.html
