    3. Don't know whether this will be at all helpful, Ginny, but the DeLorme "Arkansas Atlas and Gazetteer" shows a town of Eglantine down in Van Buren Co. It's due east of Clinton on Rt 330 going south out of Shirley. Seems to me I've heard of a sawmill or logging operation down in the Devil's Fork area. Of course, the terrain was totally different before Greers Ferry Lake was built, and I'm not real sure when that was so I'm not sure where to suggest you find a map of the area that might show the sawmills. Probably USGS has them. I do know some folks from the Leslie area of Searcy Co were down there logging - names were Bolden - so it must have been a pretty good spot. Eglantine might have been the sawmill for the logging camps. She is still living in Searcy Co. in 1920 and listed on the 1920 census. Thank you for any help. Rita Floyd ritajf_99@yahoo.com

    2. Ginny O'Neal
    3. Is anyone out there familiar with the names and locations of early sawmills in Searcy County? My gg grandfather, Ben Potter, along with (I think) Nelson Hatchett had a sawmill on the little Red River...probably around 1870 or so. Maybe earlier. In the 1870 census it states that Ben Potter is a miller. Living with him, I believe, besides his own wife Mary and her son William, is his son William 33 and new wife Eliza, along with William's 4 children with Drewsy Watts Potter( who died in Feb. 1870.) It states William Potter's occupation as working at the Eglauntine Mill? Can't really read it. I read somewhere about a mill called the Eglantine Mill. Could it be he worked there and that this was the name of Ben Potter's sawmill? It is said (by his grandson, Vincent Drewrey) that Ben's mill sawed the boards that built the buildings in the town of Leslie Arkansas. If anyone has information or thoughts about this, please write me... Thanks, Ginny O'Neal

    2. Hi. Lacie Hites Watkins was a sister to my husband's grandfather. First of all, I am not sure just how much information you are looking for. According to our records, she was married five times. First to Henry Murlott, children are Althea Murlott, and Mamie Murlott, born Dec 5, 1905 in Windom, Kansas, and died Oct 20, 1995, Englewood, CA. Then Lacie married Hal Curry and they had Rosamund and Gretta. Then she married Harry Curry, then Frank Watkins and then Dave White. Althea Murlott was married to a man whose last name was Hudson. They had a daughter named Betty Wanda Hudson who married a Reid. I have more info but am not sure how much you are looking for. Hope to hear from you soon. My email is lawney@erie.net Betty Hites

My grandfather, everett horton, remembers an uncle pink (mordecai pinckney) He never new why they called him uncle pink, but he remembered the name. My grandfather, 92 and still kicking, lives in sand springs, Oklahoma. Came with his father, George Washington Horton, to Oklahoma in a covered wagon. Hope this helps. Deb Horton Core

    3. Hi, I am doing some research on Mattie May O'Daniel, daughter of James and Sarah O'Daniel who married James P. Matlock. James, age 20 and Mattie May, age 17 are living with her parents in the 1900 census of Searcy County. Next door is an Elizabeth Matlock, widow (occupation "spinner") and her single daughter Melvina, age 22 (occupation "washer woman") . I am thinking this is James' mother. Does anyone know who James Matlock's parents were? In the 1900 census they are living in Priarie Township and James O'Daniel is 39 years old, his wife sarah is 40. Elizabeth Matlock is 44 years old (born 1856). Thanks, Ginny O'Neal
