Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2V.2ADE/1212.1.1 Message Board Post: Apologies about the site.. I have had problems since i went to a new ISP with half the country unable to see it. Unfortunately.. I suspect it would not have been much help in this case. The Barnetts I have on file trace primarily back to David Barnett, who was part of the wagon train that brought many of the Bakers, Reves, and Grinders to the Buffalo/Tomahawk/Bear Creek district of Searcy County. Working though three wives he produced a large number of descendant. His seond wife was Sarah Jane Cross, but she was a younger woman than the one you describe and they produced one child, Noah, that I know of. It is possible that a brother of David's might have followed him over from Tennessee with a wife after the War, or that she was widowed back east and came west to be with family, but i just dont have any info on that.. You might check Wayne COunty and McMinn County Tenn., as Wayne County seems to have moved to Searcy Coounty en masse in the mid 1800s and McMinn was the origin of David Barnett. Other than that I will add this to my "history's mysteries" file unless one of those other genealogy crazed sorts out there has some ideas.

So I will ask you about a Burnett/Barnett problem I have in Searcy and Marion counties and if you may have any thing on the family. I have a Jane b Jul 1835 in Tn. who married an unknown Burnett. I find her first in 1880 in Bear Creek, Searcy, Ar she is a widow and has a only son Francis Marion b Aug 1866. In 1900 and 1910 they are in Hampton, Marion, Ar. Francis Marion married in Van Buren Co. Ar in 1883 to Winnie (Elizabeth) Holland. I can't find them in 1870 and 1860 is so trashed as to be unreadable. I thank you for any help you might be able to give me. Robert DeVowe

Probably most everyone knows about the Bureau of Land Management site but just in case we have someone who is new to the web here it is http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ It has early land records for several states including AR. You can search by just surname or by given and surname if the surname is very common. Hope this is helpful to someone. Judy

Armed with her recently obtained Pope county map, Marinda Holliman, informed me that Sweet Asa Watt's homestead and family graveyard is not in Searcy county as we'd thought but right across the border in Pope County off Hwy 16 on Wildrose Ln near Nogo. I have no land records for Sweet Asa but I'll tell you what I found in the census records: 1870 Searcy county census Campbell township p.20 -- Sweet Asa is listed in the household of his parents James Albert Watts & Elizabeth Begley. 1880 Searcy county census Town of Marshall p.28 -- Sweet Asa is listed with his wife Martha Jane Kessner and his older brother John Wesley. 1890 Searcy county personal property tax book -- it lists an Asa Watts in the Bear Creek township 1900 Searcy county Wiley Cove township -- Sweet Asa is listed with his wife and ALL of his children from Nevada the oldest to Jewel the youngest 1910 Searcy county census--history commission doesn't have a copy so I don't know if Sweet is listed 1910 POPE county census Smyrna township p. 168 -- Hulous Watts (Sweet's son) age 24 is listed and on page 179b a Zillaker A. Watts age 43 Jackson township is listed ( I don't know who Zillaker's family is) 1920 Searcy county census -- history commission doesn't have a copy 1920 POPE county census as listed on rootsweb (ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ar/pope/census/1920w.txt) -- lists Watts, Asa 207b Blaine 207b Hulous 207b It doesn't tell the township and I find it odd that Sweet's sons Blaine and Hulous are listed but no daughters or wife are listed......I know that Sweet's wife Martha Jane Kessner died before he did and is buried in a marked grave on the homestead in Pope county as are his oldest daughter Nevada and her husband Charles Absolom "Abby" Ragland. Is there anyway I can get a land deed on the property in Pope county without going to the courthouse in Russellville??? And does anyone know who Zillaker Watts is? Does anyone know if this small family graveyard is listed in the Pope county cemetery books? I'm not on the Pope county listserv so if anyone from Pope county wants to reply to this e-mail please send your response to mitchkelly@hotmail.com Kelly Mitchell _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

She and her seven year old cousin,ROY BRADFORD, were playing with a target rifle; she was standing on the second stair step when ROY thought of the shotgun and undertook to pull it from under the bed, when it discharged and blew the top of LALIE'S head off.
