Hello everyone, I took a break from these lines as I felt I was going round in circles. Worked on my Howard line and FINALLY found them. At least for now. I have been reading the messages from these sites and have not seen any new information on these lines. Has everyone taken a break or are we stuck big time? To refresh: Looking for proof of James B. Martins family connections, from VA. I feel that I probably have it in my 5' file just can't figure it out. I still believe the key to locating his connections is from Ezekial Martin. I have been hoping that someone from his family would pop up. His military records give no data, except for the land that he was allotted. The other brick wall is Elizabeth (Isobell) Melton wife of James Martin. where did she die in AR? And the last brick wall is James Melton from Barry Co, that is connected to Elizabeth's family somehow. I do not think she is his daughter, as many do. My old letters from family state that her parents left her or died and she was left with a White family to be raised. She did not like her stepfather or foster father and ran away with a half-breed Cherokee man. It has been said that James Martin was 1/4 Cherokee. And his father was Hunting Jim Martin that resided in the Illinois Dist. of the Indian Nation and he died there. I believe that this Jim or (James) is the father of James Martin from Izard Co and Ezekial Martin. There are 2 other Martin's in the early census for Izard, they may be brothers also. I am rambling on again. Hoping that someone has found something new. Sandra Howard
Sandra I believe you need to talk to Mary Frances Harrell since she is the first person to Mention that Mary Elizabeth Melton Was Raised by James Melton but may not have been his daughter In the 1830 census Independence county there were several Martins Listed some of those show in 1840 census Izard or Searcy countieskenneth Shsandra@aol.com wrote: > Hello everyone, > I took a break from these lines as I felt I was going round in circles. > Worked on my Howard line and FINALLY found them. Arkansas. It was said that Jess married 3 or 4 times, But neither mom nor Dad knew of any children he had although there was 5 step-children by the one he was married to in the late 1930"s.Ask Gladys. She remembers most of this stuff first hand . She was there. John was the father of Hursel Grimes who died in Greene co ark. I have Hursel"s death certificate. John Grimes died when Hursel was young. Elizabeth Hancock grimes raised Hursel. I think I still have John"s marriage certificate also. Do you have anything else on Charles? I haven't been able to learn much about him. I think he served WW1.
