(Ingram) Knight...my g-grandmother was Mary Susan Mangria Johnson(Ingram) Knight who was married to Charner Lafayette Knight, son of James Madison Knight. They did live in the Searcy, AR area at one time. Both are buried in Love County, OK. Mary Susan and her sister were raised by their mother, Elizabeth L. Johnson and their step-father, James Ingram. What I do not know is whether Johnson was Elizabeth's married name or whether she was a single mother and therefore Johnson was her maiden name. I am still looking for this information if you have come across it. My grandmother was Vera Ieula Knight Oswalt, daughter of Charner Lafayette and Mary Susan Knight.

    1. [ARSEARCY] 1860/1870 census question
    2. Lynn & Jan James
    3. I'm trying to find an ancestor for 1860 and 1870 and am wondering if you can help. Was there a specific area called St. Joe for 1860 and 1870 or was it part of the Tomahawk Township? If that area wasn't part of the Tomahawk Township, then what township/s was it? In the 1860's and 1870's, what areas DID make up the Tomahawk Twp., that changed for 1880? The relative I'm looking for was supposed to be in the Tomahawk area in 1850's (later) but I can't find him or his family till 1880. Not knowing the boundaries for the townships (have the boundary map of the 1880 Searcy Co. censuses) I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong census records or what. Thanks for any help you can give me on this. I've looked and looked at census records and no matter how long I stare I can't make them materialize! hahaha Jan James

She volunteered at the library for years.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2V.2ADE/1212.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Steve, This is my "History Mystery". In 1990 on a trip home from PA, we "did" the Natchez Trace. I climbed a little trail out of the Natchez Trace and found a little, seemingly abandoned cemetery. One headstone was for "Jane. Wife of John Patterson and daughter of Daniel Burnett. Born Oct. (unreadable) l790, died June (unreadable) 1828." All these years I have wondered if anyone knew about the cemetery, as it was in disrepair and seemed to be inaccessible except by accident! (which is the way I "found" it.) So on Oct. 11, (just a few days ago), my husband and I went back to the Trace (storm or no storm, I was determined to find the cemetery again!) With storms the day before and tornadic weather the day AFTER, our trip out to the Trace allowed us beautiful weather! At the site marked on the large sign: MAGNUM SITE-GRINDSTONE FORD, we walked a trail to the Trace and saw a little marker that read: Daniel Burnett's Stand. But this time, instead of a semi-steep-bank to climb, there is a worn and wide smooth trail up to the level where the little cemetery is!! So someone else (besides me) has found it, and although it is not yet cleaned up and/or maintained, some stones have been propped and straightened. I am no relation to any of the people there, that was just my particular mystery to solve. But it has only presented more questions, lol. Bertha

The park there on the trace commemorates the death of Merriwether Lewis at Grinders Inn on the Trace.. I cant draw definite lines to between them though. These folks were all living on the banks of the Buffalo River and some of its creeks.. when they moved to Searcy County AR, the river they settled on was, appropriately enough, named the Buffalo, probably out of homesickness

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2V.2ADE/1369 Message Board Post: What does the Searcy County Library have in the way of information about Benjamin Potter and his children William, Leander Andrew, Malinda, Mary, Levingston, Malachi, Sarah, and Emarintha. I am trying to find out about Lev Potter and Mary Jane Ragland, conflicting dates and information. Also what happened to Malachi B. Potter after the Civil War and also what happened to Sarah (possibly Sally Potter Harris... according to a court probate record) and Emmer, the youngest daughter, who possibly married a Harley. It mentions Callie, Viney, Iny, Vincure, and John Potter as being heirs at law of Lev Potter decd. and I thought Lev was killed about 1866 or so and only had one child with Mary Jane. I need some HELP on this family. Thanks, Ginny O'Neal goneal@pcis.net
