E. B. Jameson James H. Tutt Sworn and subscribed two before me this the 15th day of August A.D. 1878. John W. Morris Clerk of Searcy County Arkansas By C. W. Keeling DC Homestead Proof Testimony of Witness G. A. W. Manes being called as a witness in support of the homestead entry of Henry Switzer for NW NE 1/4 Sec 10 TP 16 NR17W G.A.W. Manes states that he lives in St. Joe Searcy County, AR, and is employed as a Farmer.I have known Henry Switzer about 16 years, and believe him to be about 35 years of age. He is the head of a family consisting of wife & 11 children. He is a native-born citizen of the United States. He has inhabitant of the land described above. Manes says that he lives nearby and am acquainted with the land, and there are no indications of coal, saline¹s, or minerals on this land. Manes states that Switzer first made a settlement on this land about 25 April 1871, and that Switzer has resided upon the land till the present time, and that Switzer has a family that resides on this property and that he built a house about 8 years ago on the property. The property consists of 40 acres fenced, 21 stables, 1 corncrib and a peach orchard. The total value of the improvements are about $400.00. About 40 acres of the land raised corn, oats, and cane. Homestead Proof Testimony of Witness C. L. Manes lives in Valley Springs, Boone Co. AR and is a farmer. Says he has known Henry Switzer for about 16 years and believes him to be about 35 years of age at the present time. Switzer has a family consisting of wife and 11 children. Also states that he has known of the same improvements and that the value of the improvements is about $400.00 Homestead Proof Testimony of Claimant My name is Henry Switzer and I am 35 years of age, I am the head of a family consisting of wife and 11 children. I am a native born citizen of the United States. There are no indications of coal, saline¹s, or minerals of any kind on the land embraced in my homestead, that I am aware of. The land is more valuable for agricultural purposes. My post office address is St. Joe, Searcy Co. AR State of Arkansas Boone County On his 20th day of December 1878 personally appeared before me Henry Switzer aged thirty-five years a resident of Searcy County, State of Arkansas, who, I certify is respectable and entitled to credit and who, being duly sworn stated that he is the identical person who made Homestead Entry No. 4521, at little Rock, State of Arkansas on the 24th day of April 1871 for the NW of the NW Sec 32 and the SW of the SW Sec 29, T 16 R 17W, as he supposed; that the reason why he settled on, improved and cultivated the NW of the NE and the NE of the NW Sec 10 same township and range, which is claimed to have been already patented to one Daniel R. Brown is because he thought the same to be government land and it was so regarded by all his neighbors, and was at the time he made said entry generally supposed to be government land subject to homestead entry; that he has lived in the neighborhood of said land and on the same altogether about 12 years and has never known or heard of Daniel R. Brown until he was informed that he hand entered land which had already been patented to said Daniel R. Brown; that he has made diligent enquiring concerning said Daniel R. Brown, of the oldest settlers in said neighborhood and cannot find anyone who knew, or knew anything about him; That the reason why he made the assertion that a portion of his entry had been previously located by Maines was because the land described in his entry embraced a forty on which Maines had improvements to wit; the NW of the NW Sec 32 of said Township and Range, which said Maines claimed as a part of his homestead, and as he had already learned that he had made a miss-entry and as Maines was a dangerous bad man whom he feared he relinquished his Homestead Entry. That the reason why he did not apply at once for a change of entry upon his discovery of his error in his entry is because he is an ignorant man and did not know that he could have the mistake in his entry corrected, and was so advised by persons of whom he sought advice on the subject, and as soon as he was informed that he could have said mistake corrected he has set about having said mistake corrected. That abt the time he made said relinquishment he fully believed said Maines statement that he had previously entered the NW of the NW Sec 32 said Township and Range, but he is since informed that said Maines had not at that time really entered said land, but was merely using it as his own and was since sold the improvements therein to one Gates whose son-in-law, a Mr. Nix, has subsequently by preempted said land. That he is a poor man and has a large family and has no other means of support than the land to which he desires his entry changed, and which he has resided as his homestead; that he has acted in good faith with the Government in relation to his Homestead and done all he could to perfect his title to said land. C.W. Keeling R. L. Thompson Henry (his mark) Switzer Also personally appeared George Manes and John Mears residents of Searcy County, Arkansas, who, I certify are respectable and entitle to credit and who being duly sworn state that they have been well acquainted with Henry Switzer for the past twelve years, and are acquainted with the circumstances of his Homestead entry, that the foregoing affidavit signed by said Switzer, has been read over to them in their presence and hearing and that they know the facts therein substantially as stated by him; that they have lived in the settlement where said Switzer made his homestead for twenty-five years last past and have always regarded the land homesteaded by said Switzer as Government land subject to homestead entry; that they have never known any man by the name of Daniel K. Brown in said settlement or in the county, and have never heard of any such man in the county, that they know of said Switzer making a miss-entry in his homestead, he not getting the land he thought he had homesteaded that they know of one Maines spoken of by said Switzer in his affidavit, having improvements on one of the forty acres of land described in said Switzers entry, whish said Maines claimed as his Homestead; that they know said Switzer to be an ignorant man having to rely on the advice of others in business matters of any importance; that said Switzer is poor, having no other means of support, and also that said Switzer is an honest, hard-working man; that they have no interest directly or indirectly in making this statement Julia F. Osburn Campbell Keeling Subscribed and sworn to before me this 20th day of December 1878 and I certify that the contents of the foregoing affidavit were well and truly made known to affiant before they signed the same and that I have no interest whatsoever herein. Gina--I don't have anything on your research, but did want to tell you, I know what you are going through with the twin grandbabies, I have twin great grandbabies, boy and girl, they were born about 3 1/2 months early, so far they are holding their own, but they say the boy will never leave the hospital, he will probably be very retarded, the little girl is doing better, but she too, will be retarded. they weighed 1 pound 14 oz each when they were born, they are now over 6 pounds each. Just know I understand----prayers, Edna Williams [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: Gina Thomas Patterson <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, October 28, 2004 11:51 PM Subject: Re: [ARSEARCY] Military Record of ggg-gpa Claiburn L. Passmore, supposedly related to the Passmore's of Searcy Co., he was married to Faye Fowler and lived in Elk City, OK he would be somewhere around 60 years old. Thanks, Edna [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 30, 2004 4:49 PM Subject: [ARSEARCY] Re: Passmore in Searcy County > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: passmore, richardson > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2V.2ADE/249.514.871.918 > > Message Board Post: > > [email protected] > yes these are children of John Wesley, and Georgia Martin have a great family photo of all and lots of good stuff on passmores. > susann > > > ============================== > New! By the way, the James and Esther Baker that were living in 1850 in Tomahawk Township, Searcy County, next door to Esias and Rhoda Baker and Pleasant and Lucinda Hensley and two houses away from Thomas and Nancy Henderson were living in Williams Township, Stone County, Missouri in 1860, right up the road from my Thomas Henderson and wife Nancy, who I think is Esias and Rhoda's daughter. I think James was Esias and Rhoda's son. That would make James and Nancy siblings. Cathy, I had Lucinda Baker is the grand daughter of Zebediah who was born ca 1760. He had a son Essa "Ezaas" Baker who was born ca 1783 and married Rhoda ( ) and I thought Lucinda was their daughter. I have Lucinda born ca 1828 and married Pleasand King Jasper Hensley on 4 Apr 1847 in Lewis Co. TN. I have six children listed for Pleasant and Lucinda. Does anyone know if the Noel Bottoms that was in Calf Creek Twp. of Searcy Co. in 1880 census is the same Noel Bottoms that was married to Matilda Richey/Ritchie? On the 1880 census he appears to have a different wife - Vivanna, aged 54, b. in N. C. In 1870 Matilda was still in Ga. and head of household on the census. There was a Noel Bottoms in Van Buren Co. living alone in 1870. The ages for Noel seem to be correct. He was 42 in 1870 and 52 in 1880. Any help greatly appreciated. Carol Lay
