I am looking for information on the parents and/or siblings of John Lay. He was b. abt 1861, in 1900 he married Mary Elizabeth Bench (could be Burnes). They had four children - Mamie; Blevens; Ethel and Millis. In 1910 they must have separated as Mary and children were living with her mother in Marion Co. In 1920 it appears that Mary and children were living with Hiram Gibson in Wileys Cove Twp. Don't know if they were married or not. If anyone has any information on John, you can contact me or contact Wayne Lay of Star City, Ark. His email address is [email protected] Many thanks to everyone on the List for all their help. Daniel Webster Hall was b. 28 Sep 1790 in Orwell, Addison, Vermont and died 30 Mar 1869 on Hall Mountain, Marion, Arkansas. He is buried at Hurst/Teagarden Cemetery in Marion County Arkansas. On 23 Feb/Aug 1818 in Monroe County Indiana he married Hannah W. Treat b. 8 Aug 1799 Fallowsfield, Crawford, Pennsylvania and died 4 Jan 1875 on Hall Mountain, Marion Co. AR. and is also buried at Hurst/Teagarden Cemetery in Marion County Arkansas. (Some say her birth date is 18 Mar 1799, some say 18 Apr 1799). I believe he is connected to Dennis Morris and a Beavins Morris........ this is spelled many ways. Also there is a Peter Chaille in the same area as many Morris. I thought that this is the Scottish or Irish spelling for Cahal-- just a thought. I think that the Morris family was initially in Worchester Co. MD at first and this area then became DE. All speculation though. Many of the families that the Morris family intermarried with came from Willmington DE. Could be Quakers as well. Lots of Isaac Morris on the coast of NC close to where the Tarkingtons are from. Thought that maybe the original Morris family came into VA 1600s or very early 1700s maybe some went to MD and then others moved South to NC. Also speculation. Do you know if Isaac had any brothers. There was a William Morris that was in Rowan Co. at the same time as Isaac and was married in the same time frame with I believe the same witness. P. Pittma
Seeing the name Bratton captured my interest as I am related to the Brattons of Searcy County. I was also captured by the one marriage to the Clark. Do you have any idea which Clark family this might be? Our early Paul Bratton is believed to have been married to a Clark and I would enjoy some additional information about that family. Thanks.

Don, I am D. J. Allen, my husband's line goes through the same area in Arkansas that you have on your family group record. I do not believe any of our line is connected but let me list some of the names that I recall that lived in the same area. (These name are from memory--if you need more information let me knnow.) John Allen br 1843 married Susan Angline Kerr or Carr br 1841 (Susan is buried in the Clinton Cemetery- on the grave stone lists her parents as Joseph Kerr and Elizebeth Bradley-the stone appears to be a newer type stone then what would have been used when Susan died in 1893). They lived in the area of Searcy county and Wileys Cove plus the area around Clinton. The children are listed below: Mary Allen--Married Finton Elizabeth Allen--Married Maddox Kancy Allen--Married not sure of husband last name Sarah Allen--Married Clark Arkansas Allen--died in childhood John Allen--died in childhood Sidney T. Allen--Married Deason (BLOOD LINE) Nancy Allen--Married Greeson I have back-tracked all the lines through the census records and in anything that I could find. Can not get past John and Susan's information. Did not have much in family records, that is an interesting story in itself. I see that you use the PAF program. I have been using that program for years--I am a member of the Mormon Church and have done a lot of teaching in the past. With my husband's bad health and with me getting up in age we have decided that we need to get busy and do our own Family History research. It has been very enjoyable because I have been able to find a little lost history about my husbands family. ----- Original Message ----- From: Don Ott<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 29, 2005 4:20 PM Subject: [ARSEARCY] John Bratton, Olivia Delnarre Duck --=====================_19482241==_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Any Help appreciated. Hi Janice... I have a William Morgan and a a Willis Bryant that were both md to daughters of Garrison and Elizabeth Atnip Taylor. Garrison would be my GGGUncle. Garrison and my GGGrandfather David Carroll Taylor were brothers. My records show that Samantha is buried in Oklahoma, so I believe that William Morgan and Willis Bryant were probably brothers... I don't have any proof, but I can sure look it up and see. On Ancestry.com there is a family listing with these boys. Their father is William Miles England, and their Mother is Levicia Hickenbotton as Ken had stated. I'd be happy to send you a copy of the file. It appears to be somewhat incorrect, because some of the children are listed twice. But it appears that William Miles was md twice. > From: [email protected] > Reply-To: [email protected] > Date: 29 Jan 2005 08:31:29 -0700 > To: [email protected] > Subject: [ARSEARCY] RE: Searcy Co. cemeteries > Resent-From: [email protected] > Resent-Date: Sat, 29 Jan 2005 08:43:08 -0700 > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2V.2ADE/1767.1.1.2.2.1.1.1.2.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Ken, thanks for the reply. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2V.2ADE/1814 Message Board Post: There is a new DNA project listed on the genforum.com/horn message board. Men with the last name of Horn or Horne can get group rates for testing of Y chromosomes (male ancestry) and mitochondria or mtDNA (female ancestry). Cost varies, depending on exactly which tests are chosen. A group of siblings or cousins can chip in for one person to tested, and the results will be good for everyone in the family, assuming that relationships are traced correctly. As more Horn men sign up, the Y chromosome results could link the Arkansas/Oklahoma Horns back to the North Carolina Horn and Horne families. Those of us descended from William Horn and Judy Hickman might at last find out where William fits in. For families that have rumors of Native American ancestry, see the FamilyTreeDNA.com web site for charts that show who can be tested. Either Y or mtDNA testing might give valid results, depending on descent. Only men have a Y chromosome, but women can ask a brother, cousin, or uncle to be tested for their family. Either men or women can be tested for their own mother's mtDNA ancestry, but only women pass it on to their children.

Do you have the names of children, siblings, or other relatives? It's likely that he descends from Harmon Horn (1794-about 1880), and I may be able to help if you have more information.

Surnames: HAYES/HAYS - MARTIN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2V.2ADE/1813 Message Board Post: Looking for info on Thompson Walker HAYES, b. 1863 TN, m. Sarah Elizabeth Jane MARTIN 1883, Searcy Co., Arkansas. Sarah is the dau. of William M. MARTIN and have traced the MARTIN family back to Wayne Co., TN. Hoping to prove or disprove that Thompson is the son of Joseph HAYS in Wayne Co., TN. Thompson and his brother, John H. HAYES were in Searcy Co., Arkansas on the 1880 census. The 1870 census in Wayne Co., TN lists a John and Thomas in the family of Joseph and Elizabeth A. HAYS that seem to fit what I currently know. Thompson later moved to Franklin Co., Arkansas. Thank you for any help you can give.
