Mary Jane married Mr. Stone probably 1851 but it lasted only a very short time and the story goes in our family that they had a tiff (not sure if legally divorced) and she got in the wagon with her two children and returned to Searcy County where she had the third child, Charles Stone. I have talked with the descendants of a Charles Stone in Bell Co. Texas who is most likely the father of this baby but they are unaware of any marriage to Mary Jane so perhaps the court house blew away as well as there are no records of a divorce and no information about the death/burial of Mary Janes husband, nameless Yarbrough.
James Johnson pulled the information on the poll tax payees and published his book AFTER the Retired Teachers put out the book on Searcy County families. Someone will need to contact him as the information he came up with was not available when the Searcy County Family Book was done and the Yarbrough families from St. Joe have since concluded that the W. F. Yarbrough listed on James Johnson's Tax Lists for 1848 was the most likely candidate to be Robert Lee Yarbrough's father. I dont understand why this is not in someone's family Bible as it would sure help clear this up. Jimmie Yarbrough found a Robert Yarbrough listed in N. Carolina or Tennessee on the 1810/20 census with three sons that were not there on the 1840 census when three Yarbrough brothers/cousins showed up in Searcy County so Jimmie Yarbrough, etc. concluded that the three sons had left home and gone to Searcy County together for some unknown reason and then on to Milam County Texas in the 1840's. She has other info to support this.
The Yarbroughs that live just out of Harrison believe that Robert Lee Yarbrough's father was a W. F. Yarbrough listed on the 1848 Searcy Co. taxes list which James Johnson prepared. This was a small booklet of people who paid, as I best recall a poll tax,, from apx. 1840 thru 1850. We concluded Mary Janes must have married the W. F. Yarbrough because there is no Robert Yarbrough listed in 1848 the year that Robert Lee was born in Searcy County. We concluded that a Robert Yarbrough that was listed on those tax lists was perhaps the father/uncle of the W. F. Yarbrough, Absolem Yarbrough, and I believe a James Yarbrough that were listed in earlier years. Absolem left in apx. 1846 for Texas as well as the James and we concluded that the older Robert Yarbrough must have died leaving the W. F. Yarbrough the only one that could have been married to Mary Jane Price. Jimmie Yarbrough has all the information and lives just south of Harrison. James Johnson would know how to contact her.
well I should have read this message first. thanks for the help.
According to the teacher at St. Joe that sells "flea market/collectibles' at what was the St. Joe Post Office and may still be the post office, she married into one of the local families. James Johnson would know her name as I am sorry I just cannot remember it right now but I think it is Janet something. She knows an extensive history of what happened with Catherine and the little baby, Charlie Stone, that was born on Mary Janes return to Seary County.
I got it and thank you so much for sending. I appreciate it. Well a lot of my question was answered when I stumbled on to Thomas Thompson family in the 1860 Searcy, Tomahawk Census. Mary Jane 34 is married to Thomas Thompson 34 and Robert Lee 13,and Christian 11, are listed as Thompsons. Also in the census is Charles Stone 8. Searcy County History indicates that after Robert Lee Yarbrough died about 1849, that Mary Jane, shown in the 1850 Texas, Milan Census living next to Absalom Yarbrough with no husband, married Charles W. Stone b. ca 1818 TN. In 1852 she started back to Arkansas with her two Yarbrough children Robert and Christina "Catherine" and she was expecting another child. Assume that was a child of Mr. Stone, but see no records of the child, did it survive? The history notes that Robert was raised by his grandfather William "Buck" Price. What happened to the Yarbrough girl, shown as Christiana "Catherine"? Don

Mrs. Ruby Lacy, now deceased, published the cemeteries in Searcy Co. several years ago. At the time she was doing them, my husband, C. L. Boyd, helped her by going to each cemetery for directions and to check her information for her. She did 17 books on them. One of these books is just on Osborne Cemetery, so that should tell you it is a very large cemetery. Here are the directions: From the juncion of Highways 65 and 374 in St. Joe, go northeast on 374 for .5 mile to junction of county road #29. Go east on 29 for 1.5 miles. Cemetery is on the right. There are six JOHN STILLs buried in this cemetery and three Johnny STILLs. The oldest John STILL: born 10 Jan 1809 in Powell Valley, Claibourne Co. TN died 11 Mar 1885. The next in age: John Meredith STILL born 25 Mar 1846 Barry Co. Missouri died 24 Apr 1910, husband of Martha Jane ASHER.

After seeing this exchange on the list, I am wondering if you (Laurie) have a list of the occupants of Searcy cemeterys? I am looking for Sarah Elizabeth (Christopher) Stone wife of William Pitchford Stone, who homesteaded a piece on the Buffalo near St Joe. His neighbors were Hancocks. We estimate that she died after 1881 and before 1900. We've also been unable a son, Wesley Stone. If I have guessed wrong, please excuse and ignore this email. ron in CA -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Mar 19, 2005 3:37 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [ARSEARCY] Re: Osborn Cemetery at St Joe This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Somewhat confused on Mary Jane Price b. Mar 1826, NC, daughter of William "Buck" Price and Elizabeth Brewer Price who immigrated to Searcy Co. and died in Tomahawk. I think Mary Jane Price married: Robert Lee Yarbrough Sr. ca 1845 and had children Robert Lee Yarbrough Jr and Christina. Mary Jane is listed in the 1850 Texas, Milan Census without husband but has these two children. Next I think she married: Charles W. Stone b. ca 1818 TN, married him 13 Oct 1851 in Bell Co. TX., I would like to get straight on their children, any help appreciated. Next I guess she married: Someone named Thompson because she has a daughter b. ca 1861 named Lucinda Thompson. My problem is that the list of children shown as fathered by Mr. Stone, far over laps the possible marriage of Thompson and the birth of Lucinda? Any Help Don Ott
