I recently visited Scott County and stayed in Waldron for a few days. I have two lines that I am interested in who lived near Waldron, the Bolden family and the Wright family. I believe that both the Wrights and the Boldens, came to the Scott County area from Missouri (possibly Sturgeon, Boone Co.) and appeared to have moved together frequently. While I was there I had the opportunity to talk with a cousin who had many interesting stories to tell about the early days in the area. My cousin accompanied me out into the country in an effort to show me where my great-grandparents had lived. We stopped in an wooded area in the Ouachita National Forest east of Waldron. My ancestors had lived on a privately held piece of property still called the Caswell(or Casawell?) Place. My cousin said that at the time that my g-grandparents lived there (circa 1905), there were many saw mills in this part of Arkansas. My great-grandfather, Ira Ellis Bolden, worked on these saw mills. This one was located near a community called Stringer(no longer there). There was a post office at Stringer and one of my great aunts (Lula Bolden) had described walking from their house into Stringer to pick up the mail (a distance of about 2 miles). It is hard to imagine that this heavily wooded area was ever the site of even a small community, but perhaps this is one of the reasons that I have never been able to find this family on a census.
