Late last year there was some talk about Southern Claim files - claims filed by Southerners because of effects of the Civil War. Someone did a look-up for me from the index and I ordered a file. Unfortunately, it was not my ancestor but the file I ordered was very interesting. It told about the ravaging of a farm for the good of the Fed. troops. It listed the items taken, and the monetary value. There are also witnesses recorded as well as affidavits. Pardon my lack of memory, as well as disorganization in my record-keeping. Would anyone have access to the index of claims? I am sure I received the information from this list. The claim I ordered was not an Arkansas claim, or I would have posted. I do know that the National Archives holds this information but a claim number from the index is needed in obtaining. Does anyone have an index to Southern Claim files and willing to do a look-up? Thanks much- Cindy
