    1. Clay Jimmerson & wives mystery
    2. Patty Archer
    3. Hello. I have not posted to the list all of my "stuff" for awhile, so thought I would put it all in here. Maybe someone on the list could help me fill in some more information. This is very long, but please read and respond if you have anything at all on any of these people. Thanks so much. Patty (Jamerson) Archer I recently saw that in the Pre-1882 that a Donal Evatt gave information on the marriage of Jesse Evatt to Mary A. Jimmerson in Oct. 1869. Have written to him today with all of this in hopes that he can give me some more info. I am in hopes that I can find out more information on this Mary A. (Jimmerson) Evatt. She was the 2nd wife of my Great Grandpa, Clay Jameson (Jimmerson in the 1860 Scott Co. Ark. census). We have several versions of Clay's story. I am hoping to clear up any questions we have about which one of his wives were Indian. Clay Jameson was born about 1815 (1860 census says 1818) in Kentucky (some of his children have listed him born in Illinois in census records, maybe born on way from KY to MO?). His parents were George Walden Jameson, Sr. b. 1793 KY and Mary Ida (Clay) Jameson b. 1795 NC. George & Mary moved to Lincoln County, Missouri and were the first whites to settle north of the forks of the Cuivre River in 1817. They had no one but Indians as their neighbors. Their children were: Clay, Robert, Albert Gallatin, Thomas Mahan, George Walden, Jr., Pauline, Green Henry Clay and John. I have never found Clay on an 1850 census, but think that he would have to be in Lincoln Co.,MO in 1850. Also, there is no marriage record for Clay and his first wife there. Their first 3 children were born in Lincoln Co.,MO. Clay moved with his wife and children to Scott Co., Ark. between 1852 and 1856. His first wife died about 1859, possibly after the birth of their daughter Julia. He then married the 2nd wife, Mary A. (Shinn?), and she appears on the 1860 Scott Co. census with him. Clay's children with the 1st wife (Mary Ann McGuire) were: 1) Thomas J. born Dec. 1845 d. Nov. 1910 OK, married Minerva J. Starrett. Thomas's children went by the last name of Jimison. His children: Ruth, Allen Fletcher, Laura J., Joseph Mc., Mary, Allice, Julia and James. Thomas served in the Union army during the Civil War and moved his family to Briartown, Muskogee Co.,OK in the 1890s. Allen and Joseph both married Cherokee girls in OK. 2) Jessamine Z. born 1848 Lincoln Co., MO, married James Jones (Jines) in Scott Co.,Ark. Their children: Thomas, John A., Susan A., William J., and Charles. (maybe more?) 3) Willis Franklin born Aug. 22,1852 Lincoln Co.,MO, married Flora Ann Pierce Feb. 11,1875 in Lincoln Co.,MO. Their children: Green Montgomery, Mary "Lula" Jane, Jessamine, John Morgan, Ira Russell, Lenora "Nora" Maybell and James Presley. Willis died in Lincoln Co.,MO July 27,1916. 4) John W. (or R.) born 1856 Ark., married Victoria Ann Yandell about 1879. Their children: Walter, Dona, J.C., Daniel (twin), Jane (twin), Edna, Donnie and Cora. They lived in Yell Co.,Ark. 5) Julia A. born 1859 Ark. She possibly married J.P. Reynolds March 2,1892 in Scott Co. Children unknown. At this time Clay's first wife (Mary Ann McGuire) died and he re-married to Mary A. (Shinn?) born VA. Chidren with the 2nd wife: 6) Robert G. born 1862 Ark., married Julia Smith Sept. 24,1884 in Scott Co. They had a daughter Mary Jane. Robert died as a young man, about 26/27 yrs. old according to his G. Granddaughter, Bernadine Overman. She is also the one who said that Mary A. (Clay's 2nd wife, Robert's mother) was possibly a Shinn. Also she says that the Julia that married J.P. Reynolds was Robert's widow Julia (Smith) Jameson, not his sister Julia Jameson. But the marriage certificate says J.P. Reynolds & "Miss" (not Mrs.) Julia Jamison. But Robert's daughter Mary is in the household of J.P. Reynolds later on I believe she said. 7) Louella C. "Lucy" born 1864 Ark., married Reuben Smith. She is in the 1880 Scott Co. census with her husband and younger sister Melinda, and then is listed as a widow in the 1900 Scott Co. census. Their children were: William A., Cora E., Ella E., Reuben T., Edna E., and Lela L. One of Melinda's grandchildren said that Lucy had some sons that were very mean. And that she possibly moved to Texas with them. 8) Melinda "Linda" born 1867 Ark., married John H. Hall April 12,1884 in Scott Co. Their children were: Charlie, Myrtle, Oscar (twin), Edgar (twin), Bass Little (Basil in 1900 census), Maude, Hubud, Grace and Bonnie. According to a grandson, Bob Hall, they had about 14 children all together. Clay died between 1867 and 1870. Mary A. then married Jesse Evatt in Oct. 1869. So here is where the mystery is..... My Great Grandpa was Willis Franklin Jamerson, the 3rd child. My Grandma always told us that his mother was Mary Ann McGuire. According to Willis's death certificate his mother was a McGuire born in Ireland, which is not right, she was born in Missouri according to all census records of her children. The 2nd wife, Mary A. (Shinn?) was too young to possibly be the mother of these first children. Now my Grandma also said that this second wife was Indian. But according to my Great Aunt Lula's family, the first wife was an Indian who was married to a brother of Clay's (Albert Gallatin?) and after he died Clay married her. This caused a rift in the Jameson family and that's why Clay added the "r" to Jameson to make it Jamerson. My dad always said that growing up everyone always pronounced it "Jimmerson". When I spoke with a granddaughter of Melinda's (child 8), she did say that when her father's (Melinda' son Bass) temper would flair everyone always said it was the Indian in him. But she was under the impression that the Indian was not through the mother (Mary A. (Shinn?)), but through Clay himself. Now my Grandma always said that the 2nd wife was the Indian, and that after Clay died she treated these children from the first wife badly and so Willis left as a young man and headed for Lincoln Co.,MO where he had Uncles, etc. In my Grandma's pictures was a picture of four men that has written on the back Indian cousins from Arkansas. So far no one knows who they are, but they are connected with this family some how and I'm determined to figure it out. Please write if you know anything at all about any of them. Thanks so much for your time.
